Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Quality Lab Manager to lead laboratory operations within our dairy manufacturing facility. This role oversees quality testing, regulatory compliance, food safety programs, and a team of laboratory technicians to ensure products meet FDA, USDA, New York State Ag & Markets, GMP, and PMO standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support laboratory technicians in daily operations.
  • Conduct and oversee testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products.
  • Analyze and report quality metrics to production, logistics, and plant leadership.
  • Perform microbiological, chemical, and physical testing using laboratory equipment and approved methods.
  • Maintain quality records, traceability documentation, and regulatory reports.
  • Inspect production areas for compliance with quality, sanitation, safety, and GMP standards.
  • Investigate quality issues, customer complaints, and product deviations; implement corrective actions.
  • Manage product holds, disposition activities, and exception reporting.
  • Collaborate with production, sanitation, and engineering teams to resolve quality concerns.
  • Ensure laboratory safety and compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in safety programs, incident reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required; Associate degree or higher in Food Science, Dairy Science, Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Previous experience in food or dairy quality assurance, laboratory testing, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of GMP, FDA, USDA, SQF, and food safety standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and quality documentation systems.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Experience with laboratory equipment such as pH meters, balances, spectrophotometers, and microbiological testing tools preferred.
  • Knowledge of advanced analytical techniques (GC, HPLC) is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently, lead a team, and perform sensory evaluation of dairy products.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in laboratory and production environments and may involve standing for extended periods, exposure to temperature variations, noise, wet conditions, dust, moving equipment, and food manufacturing operations.
