Description

Job purpose

The Laboratory and Field Technicians will perform QA/QC duties at either an aggregate or asphalt plant lab and / or gather samples on a construction site for testing.
Duties and responsibilities

  • Promote safe work practices and an excellent safety culture
  • Responsible for safe and efficient operation of all equipment and tools
  • Participates in pre-shift safety huddles
  • Responsible for reporting incidents and accidents to supervisor or management
  • Maintain an open line of communication with team members to promote team productivity
  • Responsible to report to management and safety officer if any potential safety hazards
  • If you will be working on an aggregate site, you will be required to take MSHA training upon hire and annually as well as to adhere to all MSHA regulations and guidelines
  • QA/QC testing of bituminous asphalt, asphalt content and gradation, maximum theoretical density of mix and specific gravity of compacted mix
  • Testing of aggregate materials, sampling, absorption, LA Abrasion, specifications, un-compacted voids, sodium / magnesium loss, and crush counts
  • Inventory products, QC sampling, schedules, specification, testing, gradations, and crush gravity of compacted mix efficiently
  • Bituminous mix design development, complete overview of Pennsylvania design processes for HMC and WMA as per job specifications.

  • Ability to perform tasks as given from supervisors as well as work as part of a team
  • Adaptable to changing conditions
  • Computer, iPad, fax, fax, printer, and copier experience
  • Safety conscience and safety oriented
  • Some Mechanical and maintenance skills
  • Able to learn and use several types of software programs
  • Able to comprehend ASTM and AASHTO standards and procedures

Working conditions

Working conditions are indoors and outdoors and can vary throughout the season.  Preparation for these changing conditions and the ability to adapt is required.  Field technicians may work near live traffic and must be aware of their environment at all times.

Physical requirements

This position requires an individual to stand, walk, sit, use arms, hands, and fingers.  It will require some heavy lifting, handling of objects, and exposure to a variety of weather conditions.
