Job Summary
The lab instructor will work collaboratively with full-time faculty and the department chair to support hands-on student instruction in the lab environment. This position is responsible for maintaining a safe and organized lab setting by following established safety protocols, motivating students to engage fully in all aspects of the learning process, and providing instructional support to the department chair, dean, and students.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Certificate in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience to include classroom, lab, or industry experience
  • Computer literate
  • Communication skills with public speaking and strong organizational skills
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College's insurance policy

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in related field
  • College and/or high school teaching experience

Essential Functions
  • Prepare and maintain labs, equipment, and materials to support instructional activities
  • Ensure a safe and organized lab environment in compliance with safety standards
  • Assist faculty with demonstrations and provide supervision during lab sessions
  • Guide and support students in developing hands-on skills
  • Monitor equipment, manage supplies, and report maintenance needs

Physical Demands
  • Frequently moves equipment or materials weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Able to remain in a stationary position for approximately 50% of the time
  • Requires manual dexterity and fine motor skills
  • Regular use of a keyboard and computer workstation
  • Frequently communicates with others and must be able to exchange accurate information
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Occasionally required to travel between office, classroom, and other on/off-campus locations
  • Work performed in both office and classroom settings, with some duties outdoors
  • Ability to work extended hours and attend Midland College or community events as needed
