Job description

Job Summary:
Responsible for specimen pick up from client locations and delivery to the central lab. Basic understanding of sample transport and storage requirements for urine drug testing. Possesses the ability to organize workload for maximum efficiency, accuracy and to help maintain the integrity of patient samples during transport and delivery to the laboratory.. Ability to maintain good working relationships and communications. Provides supplies to collection station and reports to clients in a timely manner.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
A. OSHA and Biomedical precautions
1. Utilizes Personal protective equipment as needed.
2. Ensures that all samples are in appropriate biohazard bags and are placed securely in an
acceptable transport container.
B. Patient and Client Relations
1. Is professional and courteous to clients at all times
2. Provides clients assistance as needed. Delivers supplies as necessary.
3. Is helpful to clients in answering questions and follow-ups up as necessary.
4. Complies with all corporate policy with regards to patient health care information and HIPAA.
C. Courier responsibilities
1. Properly transports the samples and maintains specimen integrity at all times.
2. Communicates between client and lab staff as needed.
3. Ensures that all specimens have a lab requisition that is completely filled out.
4. Drives safely at all times and follows speed limits.
5. Notifies Supervisor if there are any delays in returning to the lab
D Inventory Control
1. Assists with supply inventory for collection stantion and ensures that they have all necessary
supplies at all times.
2. Orders supplies as needed, notifies supervisor of any inventory issues.
E. Other
1. Performs Quality Assurance reporting as assigned by Supervisor.
2. Responsible for other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Director.
3. Adheres to infection control procedures at all times
4. Follows are departmental safety policies and reports safety hazards to the Lab Director
5. Attends OSHA, Biomedical Waste and any other training as necessary.
6. Recognizes and performs duties in an independent manner, without being instructed to do so.
7. Reports for scheduled shift on time.
8. Follows policy for reporting in sick or absent.
9. Schedules vacation with Supervisor or Lab Director with 30 days advance notice.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Requires prolonged standing, driving, frequent sitting, bending, stooping, and occasional lifting less than 40 pounds. Requires normal range of hearing, color- vision and manual dexterity sufficient to perform functions as courier with respect to driving. Requires ability to work under stressful conditions and possess good communication skills.
WORKING CONDITION:
The occupant of this position spends 95% of the time driving. The employee is exposed to patient urine samples and should follow safety practices as defined by the facility protocol.
