Kamber Lab - Junior/Assistant/Associate/Full Specialist
SCHOOL OF MEDICINE - Anatomy
Description
The Kamber lab ( www.kamberlab.com ) is seeking a Junior/Assistant/Associate/Full Specialist to join our group and contribute to new and ongoing projects. Our lab focuses on the discovery of novel molecules that govern the ability of our immune system to recognize and destroy cancer cells and which may serve as new therapeutic targets for currently untreatable cancers. In particular, we are interested in identifying genes and proteins that regulate macrophage-mediated clearance of cancer cells. We are also interested in developing innovative CRISPR-based screening approaches to enable exploration of a wider range of understudied macrophage-related phenomena. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the core research efforts in the lab, by conducting molecular and cell biological techniques, including molecular cloning, tissue culture, CRISPR-mediated gene editing, automated live-cell imaging, flow cytometry, and next-generation sequencing. An exceptional candidate will design their own experiments, lead their own independent project, develop new ideas, be familiar with the literature, present at lab meetings, and participate in procurement of funds, where appropriate. Additionally, the specialist will be expected to assist with managing day-to-day lab operations, and perform general lab duties and be a positive lab citizen.
Required Qualifications:
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Willingness and ability to learn new methods and skills for changing research priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a research team.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, coordinate work tasks with others, and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Must have (or be in process of obtaining) a bachelor's degree (or equivalent degree) or four years of research experience to be appointed at the Junior rank.
  • Must have (or be in process of obtaining) a master's degree (or equivalent degree) or a bachelor's degree with three or more years of research experience to be appointed at the Assistant rank.
  • Must have (or be in process of obtaining) a master's degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of research experience to be appointed at the Associate rank.
  • Must have (or be in process of obtaining) a terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or at least ten or more years of research experience to be appointed at the Full rank.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience in the design and assembly of DNA constructs
  • Prior experience in mammalian cell culture and genome manipulation (i.e. gene knockouts) and high throughput sequencing

We are seeking at least a 1-year commitment. Depending on performance and workload, opportunities for independent research, mentorship of other trainees, and scientific writing will be available. This position offers the opportunity for close mentorship in a supportive and friendly environment, as well as guidance and support in achieving their long-term career goals (including training in oral and written communication, flexible scheduling to accommodate preparation for graduate/medical school examinations and interviews, and opportunities for networking with other scientists).
Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit a cover letter with their application, describing their past research experiences, research interests, career goals, and the length of time they intend to commit to the position (e.g. 1 years, 2 years, or more).
