Job description

Position Title: Medical Lab Technician
Location: Detroit, MI
Shift: 5x8s rotating schedule
Shift Hours: 2:30 PM – 11:00 PM
Assignment Dates: 02/16/2026 – 05/16/2026 (13-week assignment)
Assignment Type: Temp to perm (opportunity to extend or convert to permanent based on business needs)
Pay Rate: $38.00 per hour

Position Overview

The Medical Lab Technician works under the direct supervision of a laboratory technologist, leader, or supervisor to perform select laboratory procedures on blood and other body fluid specimens. This role involves both manual testing techniques and the use of laboratory instruments and information systems. The technician will primarily support the Chemistry section of the laboratory and may perform phlebotomy as needed.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory testing on blood and other body fluid specimens according to defined protocols
  • Operate laboratory instruments and utilize laboratory information systems
  • Perform manual laboratory techniques as required
  • Support chemistry laboratory operations
  • Perform phlebotomy as needed
  • Communicate effectively with laboratory staff and clinical teams
  • Follow laboratory policies, procedures, and quality standards
  • Maintain accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality of laboratory data

Required Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or Laboratory Science
  • Certification from a recognized national certifying agency (ASCP or NCA)
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of previous experience in a Medical Lab Technician role or similar
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency and theoretical knowledge sufficient to perform laboratory functions
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others

Required Experience

  • Chemistry laboratory experience
  • Experience working with Beckman Coulter equipment (AU system experience preferred)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Sunquest Laboratory Information System (LIS)
  • Automation experience

Work Environment & Additional Information

  • Candidate will work primarily on the Chemistry side of the laboratory
  • Fast-paced clinical laboratory environment
  • Must be comfortable working rotating schedules and evening shifts

Compensation & Benefits

  • $38.00 per hour
  • Benefits available to full-time employees after 90 days of employment
  • 401(k) with company match available for eligible employees
