Overview of the Position:

The Medical Assistant is an essential member of the patient center medical home team. The Medical Assistant is responsible for coordination of care between the patient and medical provider, while helping support the clinical team with effective and efficient delivery of health care services.

Education and Experience:

• Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited school

• National CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) or RMA (Registered Medical Assistant) certification required

• BLS certification required

Required Skills / Abilities:

• Maintain current general medical knowledge.

• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, co-workers, and guest.

• Ability to take initiative and handle various task simultaneously

• Knowledge of policies, procedures, regulations, and protocols

• Knowledge of data bases (ex: EMR systems)

• Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred

• Familiar with medication names and usage

• Medical terminology

• At least two years of experience in a physician’s office

• Excellent interpersonal skills

• Detailed oriented

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• This position has no direct reports

Essential Job Functions:

• Assist the medical provider in the evaluation and treatment of clients to include patient intake, taking and recording of vital signs, diagnostic procedures, and lab work.

• Assist with medication refills when needed

• Facilitates efficient patient flow and room turnover

• Keeps work area neat, tidy, and well supplied.

• Stocks exam room with supplies daily

• Performs data entry task for reporting purposes

• Responds to phone calls in timely manner

• Performs practice specific duties in accordance with recommended guidelines

• Participation in training opportunities to enhance knowledge such as conferences, and continuing education/in-service events

• Utilizes data systems to assist with chart prep prior to patients appointment

• Develops and maintains working knowledge of all equipment needed to perform duties

• Ability to understand and administer vaccines and immunizations to pediatric and/or adult patients.

• Effective communication with other healthcare entities, departments, and guest

• Manage and maintain medical records

• Schedule appointments

• Provide appropriate education to patient and/or patient’s family

• Ability to help in other offices when needed(may include travel)

• Helps maintain medical supply inventory

• Assist in training new medical assistants to the organization in the standard working procedures of HopeHealth

• Other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:

Hearing: Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone. Speaking: Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone. Vision: Visual acuity adequately to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens. Other: Requires occasional lifting and carrying items weighing up to 10 pounds unassisted in normal daily activities and up to 30 lbs. for other required work activities. Additionally, requires frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements (especially if keyboarding and writing), standing, walking, squatting, and sitting, with some lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift.
