Job description

General Summary:

Under the direction of a registered/certified medical assistant (MA) and/or other licensed clinical professional and within the parameters of the training, the MA Apprentice will perform assigned duties while participating in an MA Apprentice Program. The training will include office practices including, but not limited to: rooming, notifying patients of results, communicating provider recommendations with patients - both through the electronic medical record and via phone, following up on patient symptoms, and learning front desk procedures. The experience for the MA Apprentice will align with lessons learned during their concurrent schooling.

Requirements:

  • Current student enrolled in a Medical Assistant Apprentice program
  • BLS/CPR (Healthcare Provider) required - completed during apprentice program
  • Basic computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Word).
  • Remains flexible in staffing patterns and resolution of staffing conflicts
  • Excellent customer service skills and communication skills (oral and written)
  • High level of interpersonal skills

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Review with the patient and document their vital medical information (such as allergies), physical and emotional condition. This includes but is not limited to patient vital signs, height, weight and subjective complaint(s). This information will then be documented in the Electric Medical Record and communicated to the Provider.
  2. Provide support and assistance to the physician during patient examinations and procedures.
  3. Complete documentation and charting of all clinical test results.
  4. Obtain any requested lab specimens and the processing of those specimens either internally in the office-based lab or externally when required. Completion of any in office testing (i.e. EKG, holter monitor, etc.), that is required.
  5. Assist the Provider with the administration of medications or the actual administration of the medication according to their directions as necessary.
  6. Assist the patient in scheduling any follow-up, referrals, or future office appointments as necessary.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned. These may include but are not limited to: Maintaining a current knowledge base of use standards of care in professional practice; pursuing self-directed learning and continuing education opportunities; and participating on committees, task forces, and work groups as determined by management.
