Lab Account Manager information

What are some common challenges faced by Lab Account Managers when balancing client needs with laboratory capabilities?

Lab Account Managers often navigate the challenge of aligning client expectations with the laboratory’s technical capabilities and capacity. This requires clear communication and active problem-solving, especially when clients request services outside the lab’s standard offerings or tight turnaround times. Success in this role involves understanding both the scientific aspects and business priorities, ensuring clients receive accurate information about feasibility and timelines. Building strong internal relationships with lab technicians and management also helps resolve challenges efficiently.

What is a Lab Account Manager?

A Lab Account Manager is a professional responsible for managing relationships between a laboratory and its clients or accounts. They serve as the main point of contact, ensuring clients' needs are met, coordinating laboratory services, and overseeing project timelines and deliverables. Lab Account Managers also handle inquiries, provide technical support, and help drive business growth by identifying new opportunities with existing or potential clients. Their role often requires a blend of scientific knowledge and strong communication and organizational skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Lab Account Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Lab Account Manager, you need a solid background in life sciences or laboratory operations, often supported by a relevant degree and experience in account management or sales. Familiarity with CRM software, laboratory information systems (LIS), and product knowledge related to lab equipment or services is typically required. Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and problem-solving skills distinguish top performers in this role. These competencies ensure effective client relationship management, driving business growth and customer satisfaction in highly technical environments.

Shape the Future with Us.
At Lubrizol, we’re bringing to life the chemistry behind clean water, efficient transportation, reliable infrastructure, critical medicines, and the products people rely on every day through science, sustainability, and a culture of inclusion.

As part of our global team, you’ll be empowered to make a real impact - on your career, your community, and the world around you.

NA Account Manager – Engineered Polymers

How You’ll Make an Impact

As an Account Manager you'll play a critical, relationship-focused role responsible for growing, supporting, and strengthening our North America Estane TPU business. In this role, you will act as a trusted advisor to customers—deeply understanding their applications, identifying opportunities for value creation, and guiding them toward solutions that leverage Lubrizol’s engineered polymer technologies.

The Account Manager will own a portfolio of strategic accounts, expand our presence in key markets, and uncover new opportunities by translating customer needs into actionable growth strategies. This role is ideal for a sales professional who is entrepreneurial, consultative, technically curious, and motivated by building long‑term customer partnerships that drive measurable business results.

In this role, you will excel in:

Account Management & Customer Growth

  • Manage and grow an assigned portfolio of accounts by building strong, long‑term relationships across customer organizations.
  • Develop strategic account plans that align customer needs with Lubrizol’s value proposition, technology roadmap, and growth priorities.
  • Maintain and expand business within existing accounts while actively identifying cross‑sell and upsell opportunities.

Business Development & Market Expansion

  • Identify, evaluate, and activate new business opportunities that support the Estane TPU growth strategy.
  • Develop go‑to‑market strategies that address emerging market needs and drive new revenue streams.
  • Build and manage a robust sales pipeline, ensuring consistent opportunity development and progression.

Consultative Selling & Technical Partnership

  • Become a subject matter expert in TPU materials, applications, and industry dynamics.
  • Educate customers on technology capabilities, market trends, and application insights through presentations, technical discussions, and collaborative sessions.
  • Partner closely with R&D, marketing, and technical service teams to deliver customer‑focused solutions.

Market Insight & Strategic Influence

  • Maintain deep awareness of competitive activity, market shifts, and customer program developments.
  • Provide insights to internal stakeholders on product needs, pricing strategies, market conditions, and customer expectations.
  • Make recommendations on product mix, sourcing, and commercial strategies; negotiate agreements to closure.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration & Customer Support

  • Work collaboratively with internal teams to ensure customer programs are supported from concept through commercialization.
  • Coordinate with supply chain, marketing, technical service, and other partners to deliver seamless customer experiences.
  • Travel to customer sites to strengthen relationships and support key initiatives.

Required Qualifications that Enable Your Success

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 5+ years of sales experience with demonstrated success in account management or business development.

Preferred Qualifications that Drive you Forward

  • Experience in technical or engineered material sales, specifically in a B2B environment.
  • Strong relationship‑building skills with a consultative sales approach.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems and tools such as Excel and PowerPoint.

Your Work Environment

At Lubrizol, when you’re not on the road, we’re committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment where you can do your best work—whether in a lab, on the production floor, or in a hybrid office setting. Depending on your role, your work environment may include:

  • Working in a lab or manufacturing setting with appropriate PPE provided
  • Use of computers and digital tools in an office or hybrid environment
  • Occasional lifting or movement of materials
  • Adherence to rigorous safety protocols and ergonomic standards

We continuously invest in our facilities and technologies to ensure they support your well-being, productivity, and growth. If you require reasonable accommodation, we are committed to working with you to ensure an inclusive and accessible experience.
