Job description

What We Are Looking For
The SACROC Power Team is seeking an Powerline Technician with a hiring range from a level 1 to a level 5 dependent on experience and skill set to join the line crew in Snyder, Texas. The successful candidates will engage in all facets of construction and maintenance of our 15KV electrical distribution system in the SACROC Unit. The Power group is responsible for the repair, maintenance and construction for all overhead equipment in the Snyder operation. SACROC is one of the largest CO2 floods in the world. The SACROC operation produces over 30,000 BOPD, 650,000 BWPD. SACROC has one of the largest independently operated electrical distribution systems with voltages ranging from 138 KV down to 480 KV. Our distribution system is comprised of over 350 miles of line and 7 Sub Stations, of which 5 are owned by Kinder Morgan SACROC LP.
What You Will Do
  • Installs transformers, cutouts, lightning arresters, crossarms, insulators, switches, and conductors overhead or underground.
  • Maintain and repair power distribution system components.
  • Perform routine troubleshooting activities.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on overhead equipment.
  • Implement improvements and modifications as assigned.
  • Verbally report any unusual conditions to field supervisory personnel.
  • Work call-outs on an as-needed basis and carry company phone.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Assists with the coordination of outage associated work.
  • Requires thorough knowledge and application of EH&S systems.
  • Position is likely to require investments of time beyond a 40-hour week and will occasionally entail long workdays, over many days, during outage periods. Due to operations constraints outage work may also occur during nighttime, and weekends.
  • Subject to call outs 24 hours/day 7 days/week to deal with potential problems. To fill in as required when necessary staff are sick or on vacation.

What You Need
Educational Requirements: (minimal requirements and any additional education or training that would be helpful)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Job Requirements: (specific experience, skills, knowledge, certifications, licenses, competencies, working conditions)
  • Must possess a valid state of Texas Class "A" Commercial driver's license with air brake endorsements.
  • Must maintain a valid home telephone number.
  • Prefer candidates live within 30 minutes of SACROC.
  • Must possess good verbal communications skills.
  • Must be proficient with the use of power tools, hand tools and measuring equipment.
  • Must possess basic computer skills.
  • Must demonstrate strong work ethic.
  • Exceptional teamwork skills.
  • Requires heavy manual work that involves walking or standing most of the time, exerting up to 100 pounds of force on a recurring basis.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual tasks under varying unfavorable weather conditions.

Preferred Experience, Skills and Knowledge: (above the minimum requirements; not required, but advantageous in this position)
  • Perform hot line work
  • Knowledge of SEL- 651R and Cooper recloser controllers
  • Knowledge of Cap bank controllers
  • Knowledge of first aid, safety practices, procedures and occupational hazards of the trade.
  • Skill in the use of tools, equipment, and vehicles common in the trade.
  • Ability to understand and follow complex oral or written instruction.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual tasks under varying unfavorable weather conditions.
  • Ability and willingness to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other employees, and the general public.
