Location: On-Site - Kaneohe, HI.
Relocation Package: None
Schedule: Full-time. Weekend and holiday availability required.
Shift Expectation: Generally from 6:00 AM -2:30 PM or 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
Position Summary
The Aquaculture Technician is responsible for the daily care, maintenance, and operation of aquaculture systems, ensuring the health and sustainability of aquatic species. This role includes performing animal husbandry tasks, monitoring water quality, maintaining ponds and equipment, and supporting shrimp harvesting and processing. The technician will work both independently and as part of a team to enhance efficiency, productivity, and product quality.
Key Responsibilities
  • Set up equipment for shrimp harvesting from grow-out ponds.
  • Assist in casting nets to harvest 100-200 lbs of shrimp weekly.
  • Support processing and packaging of shrimp for sale in KualoaGrown Market and restaurant accounts.
  • Maintain high food safety and sanitation standards throughout harvesting and processing.
  • Monitor dissolved oxygen, temperature, and salinity levels daily across all grow-out ponds.
  • Perform daily feedings for all shrimp ponds and assist in tracking growth and health.
  • Assist in maintaining optimal water quality and phytoplankton levels to support shrimp health.
  • Maintain and repair flow-through and recirculating aquaculture systems.
  • Install, repair, and troubleshoot PVC pipes and fittings as needed.
  • Operate and maintain small equipment such as power washers and weed-whackers.
  • Conduct routine cleaning and upkeep of tanks, ponds, pumps, and aeration systems.
  • Perform general landscaping, including trimming trees, weed-whacking, and mowing.
  • Keep the aquaculture area clean and organized to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physically demanding tasks throughout the shift.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in hot, humid, rainy, or muddy conditions.
  • Capable of standing, bending, and moving for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely operate and maintain aquaculture-related tools and machinery.

Minimum Qualifications
  • At least one year of experience in aquaculture, animal husbandry, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with flow-through and recirculating aquaculture systems.
  • Basic knowledge of PVC piping and water management systems.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with shrimp aquaculture or similar aquatic species.
  • Knowledge of water quality management and environmental monitoring.
  • Experience in food safety standards and seafood processing.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair pumps, aerators, and filtration systems.
  • Previous experience operating small farm or aquaculture equipment.
