What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a Crew Member who enjoys a fast-paced environment and is passionate about customer service, teamwork, and helping create positive dining experiences. Crew Members perform a blend of front-of-house and back-of-house duties, including cashiering, customer service, dishwashing, stocking, cleaning, bussing, and light food prep.

Pay Rate: The anticipated pay for this position starts at $15.00. The final rate will be determined based on qualifications, experience, education, and years within the job or industry.

Schedule: This is a full-time, year-round position with multiple scheduling options available. All employees are required to work at least one weekend shift per week. We offer stable scheduling, flexible shifts, and no late nights.

Duties & Responsibilities of All KU Memorial Union Positions

  1. Adhere to University and KU Memorial Union policies and procedures.
  2. Support the KU Memorial Unions’ lines of effort, initiatives, and End State as described by the Executive Director, and work to achieve and uphold the department’s mission and core values: community, dignity, empowerment, excellence, innovation, and safety.
  3. Follow the 7 Team Principles: competence, creating a cohesive team through mutual trust, creating shared understanding, setting clear leader intent, written/verbal communication, disciplined initiative, and risk management.
  4. Demonstrate a positive, solution-oriented attitude in performing job responsibilities and collaborating with colleagues to foster a respectful and productive work environment.
  5. Always exhibit professional decorum while representing the KU Memorial Unions and the University, including routine events and meetings that occur outside of the kitchen, around campus, and in the community.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform a variety of tasks including cooking, prepping, cleaning, dishwashing, restocking, serving food, and cashiering.
  • Follow all food safety rules for preparing, handling, and storing food.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace with a “clean as you go” approach.
  • Communicate questions or concerns to your supervisor clearly and professionally.
  • Support coworkers and work collaboratively to ensure tasks and assignments are completed efficiently.
  • Assist with stocking, general cleaning, and covering workstations as needed.
  • Interact positively with customers and follow up on concerns as appropriate.

What’s Required to Be Considered

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • At least one year of experience in a similar or related position
  • ServSafe certification or willingness to obtain it within six months

The Ideal Candidate

  • Previous food service experience at a college, institutional, or high-volume dining operation
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and in a team environment

Physical Requirements

  • This position requires regular standing, bending, stooping, extensive walking, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work on your feet for extended periods and follow all food safety and sanitation standards.
