Maintenance Tech are responsible for maintaining and repairing equipment, buildings, and fixtures of a manufacturing plant. The company also requires that all employees perform all tasks in a safe manner consistent with corporate policies and state and federal laws. Responsibilities for Candidates:
  • Perform tasks related to preventative maintenance, mechanical machine repairs, inspection and testing of equipment, building maintenance and specific projects.
  • Perform all jobs safely, efficiently and accurately to maintain and improve the performance of the entire plant in the areas of Safety, Quality, Reliability (SQR) and our Customer 1st strategy.
  • Provide leadership that embodies our 7 Kroger Manufacturing High Performance Work System principles. Demonstrate the companyโ€™s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion and safety of others.
  • Personally, directs the daily work activities of employee engaged in performing a wide variety of maintenance tasks when requested.
  • Troubleshoot pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical and electrical problems and repairs components to assure equipment reliability.
  • Develops templates or drawings in order to fabricate replacement parts or equipment or to improve existing parts and equipment. This includes operating such equipment as lathes, drill presses, press brake, cut-off saw, etc. Is required to turn shafts and make gears, etc.
  • Is required to weld such materials as steel, aluminum, stainless steel, etc., in all positions. Selects rod type and size and sets welders to insure proper weld.
  • Must be able to read basic wiring diagrams and schematics to make minor electrical repairs. Observes test runs. May remove and install electrical motors, replace wires, etc.
  • May travel to equipment vendor location to assist in assessing equipment for plant use. Observes test runs. May be involved in installing new processing equipment or systems working with manufacturers personnel to assure efficient start-up.
  • May serve as lead person in absence of superior or as required by departmental needs.
  • Assists the plant engineer in the design and installation of new equipment and specifications for it.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to perform skills required in the Intermediate Mechanical Maintenance Technician skills assessment (Pay for Skills).
  • Install, maintain, and repair machinery, equipment, physical structures, and pipe and electrical systems in the facility.
  • Set up and use of machine tools such as lathe, grinder, drill press and milling machine to repair or fabricate parts.
  • Troubleshoot issues, repair failures of production and facility equipment to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Complete assigned work orders.
  • Maintain maintenance area in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Utilize maintenance systems as necessary to complete daily, weekly, monthly duties.
  • Operate material handling equipment safely.
  • Enter information in the systems to document work order completion.
  • Provide support to team in the predictive and preventative maintenance program.
  • Participate and actively support all plant initiatives.
  • Organize and define tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Follow established programs, policies and practices to produce safe quality foods that meet regulatory and company requirements.
  • Support the development, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of the SQF 2000 Systems.
  • Accountable to the Kroger Manufacturing Food Safety and Quality Principles.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Qualifications for Candidates:

Minimum:
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.ย  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • Ability and willingness to move with purpose and a strong sense of urgency.
  • Ability to work weekends.
  • Ability to work overtime.
  • Ability to work any shift.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with distribution center terms and processes.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of tasks/projects.
  • Ability to work within set time frames and fixed deadlines.
  • Familiarity with industry/technical terms and processes.
  • Ability and willingness to continue education, as necessary.
  • Ability to operate the following special equipment, machinery, and/or special tools:ย  hand truck, hand and power pallet jack, power lift equipment (Company will train).
  • Valid driverโ€™s license.
  • Limited Maintenance Industrial license.

Desired:
  • High school education or general education degree (GED) plus two years experience in plumbing, blueprint reading, general building maintenance, hydraulic and electrical experience; four years in electric or gas forklift repair, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
