Job description

Research Scientist
The Research Scientist position at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center offers a full-time, hands-on opportunity within Dr. Michael Wang's laboratory in the Department of Lymphoma and Myeloma. This Research Scientist role focuses on performing and coordinating high-impact translational research projects with minimal faculty guidance while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary scientific teams. The department is well funded through multiple mechanisms, including CPRIT, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society grants, and philanthropic support.
As a Research Scientist, the individual will contribute to the mission of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, the nation's top-ranked cancer center, located in the Texas Medical Center in Houston. UT MD Anderson is dedicated to advancing cancer research, education, prevention, and patient care, providing an environment where a Research Scientist can grow professionally while making meaningful scientific contributions. The Research Scientist role is central to driving innovation and advancing discoveries in lymphoma and myeloma research.
The ideal candidate for this role is a highly motivated and collaborative scientist with strong hands-on research experience, demonstrated expertise in molecular biology and animal models, and the ability to independently manage and advance complex research projects. The individual should be comfortable training and supervising laboratory personnel, contributing to publications, and representing the laboratory in professional scientific settings.
Minimum $32.93 - Midpoint $41.11 - Maximum $49.28 per hour based on a 40-hour work week.
The typical work schedule is days and the work location is Onsite, Houston, Texas.

Responsibilities
• Determine specific research goals and objectives, evaluate research data, and revise techniques to resolve problems and advance projects
• Plan, organize, coordinate, direct, and actively participate in scientific research projects
• Assign, review, and oversee work performed by laboratory personnel involved in research activities
• Train and supervise technicians and other staff in laboratory techniques, equipment usage, and safety procedures
• Compile, write, and submit research reports to leadership
• Present research findings and prepare manuscripts for publication
• Perform in vitro molecular biology experiments including tissue culture, gene expression analysis, and knockdown studies
• Manage transgenic and experimental mouse colonies and execute xenograft experiments
• Contribute expertise in drug quality control and development
• Develop innovative experimental approaches, adapt or design equipment, review scientific literature, and represent the laboratory at conferences and meetings
EDUCATION
  • Required: Master's Degree Natural sciences or related field.
  • Preferred: PhD Natural sciences or Medical Degree

WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Required: Four years Experimental or scientific work or
    Two years Experimental or scientific work with medical degree or
    No experience required with PhD.
