Basic Job Purpose/Function Klickitat County Civil Service will be testing for the position of Civil Clerk to work for the Klickitat County Sheriff. Basic Job Purpose/Function: Under general supervision, the position contributes to the effective and timely administration of the system by assisting in coordinating the execution of civil processes in accordance with the Revised Code of Washington (RCW), other statutory requirements and the Sheriff's Office Department Rules, Regulations and Procedures. Responsible for administrative support, bookkeeping and coordinating civil paper services to contribute to complete, accurate and legal records maintenance and timely civil paper service. Essential Job Duties Essential Job Duties: Carries out procedures to assure the efficient and effective processing and execution of civil documents in compliance with department policy and applicable laws.

Researches federal and state laws and regulations concerning area of assignment and takes appropriate action to reduce department liability. Acts as receptionist and secretary for the Sheriff's Department, receives calls, types and files letters, and performs other secretarial and clerical tasks as needed. Performs the receipt, recording, service and return of civil documents in a timely manner.

Communicates with attorneys, deputies, and the courts regarding schedules, procedures and time requirements. Practices principles and procedures of civil functions and processes within a law enforcement agency. Adhere to legal requirements, regulations, and laws applicable to assigned area.

Administers the Concealed Permit License (CPL) permit and application process to include fingerprinting applicants (as well as for other purposes) and conducting confidential criminal history/background checks. Responds to inquiries, complaints, problems, or emergencies or refers to appropriate personnel. Coordinates and works with other departments, agencies, attorneys and courts as necessary.

Processes Writs of Execution and Orders of Sale on real and personal property; holds auctions for sale of property. Assures the proper control of Sheriff's Office moneys by receiving, recording, balancing and/or transmitting funds received by the Civil Section. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, courts, attorneys, other agencies and the general public.

Operates computer software and associated equipment to maintain records and prepare reports. Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing. Physically perform the essential functions of the job.

Requirements/Minimum Qualifications Requirements/Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques and related tools/equipment to accomplish the basic function of this position, including any safety and/or legal requirements. This may, but not necessarily, include specialized skills. Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this job.

A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: High School diploma or G.E.D. Law enforcement or paralegal related experience is preferred A minimum of two years of office work experience Knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel Licenses, Certificates and Other Requirements Licenses, Certificates and Other Requirements As a condition of an employment, a candidate must have successful outcomes of a polygraph test, drug testing and completion of all examinations. Must be at least 21 years of age

Must not have been convicted of a crime that is punishable by imprisonment in a state or federal prison or institution. Shall possess good moral character as determined by a thorough background investigation. Must satisfactorily complete 12 months probation.

Must have a valid Driver's License.
