Job description

Priorities:

  • Supporting Volunteer meal serving groups.
  • Assist with inventory management, cleaning and prep.
  • Following routines/systems and improving them by problem solving with the Community Center Team.

Responsibilities:

  1. Following the Kitchen Managers specifications, set up ingredients and supplies for volunteers.
  2. Assist in maintaining the daily cleanliness of the kitchen, informing guests and volunteers of appropriate procedures, and verifying completion of all daily cleaning tasks.
  3. Assess the daily need for prepared sack lunches, coffee grounds, food baskets, and cold/dry breakfast supplies.
  4. Complete daily cleaning tasks and maintain a cleaning schedule with the Kitchen Manager to safeguard regular detailing of equipment including, but not limited to the griddle, ovens, stovetop and shelving.
  5. Assist, as time permits, with the proper storage and rotation of inventory including but not limited to:
    1. Accepting deliveries and donations
    2. Managing the care of fresh/frozen foods
    3. Receiving, sorting and storing deliveries in a timely manner
    4. Rotating inventory
  6. Attend meetings as necessary.
    Qualifications:

Required:

  • Ability to work under a deadline, both with others and independently.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to stand for several hours
  • Work or life experience that demonstrates willingness to work within CUFHs philosophy and mission.
  • Genuine interest in helping people who are homeless and /or poor
  • Patience and a sense of humor.

Preferred:

  • Professional food-service experience.
  • Experience in a non-profit or social service setting.
  • Serv-Safe certification or willingness to become certified.
