The Daughters of Charity Ministries and Mater Dei Residence are currently seeking a part-time Cook to join our team.

We're located on the West Side of Evansville just down the road from University of Southern Indiana. The residence offers a beautiful, clean, homelike setting in a country environment.

The Cook Role.

  • The Cook prepares, seasons, and cooks soups, meats, vegetables, desserts and other foods for Sisters at Seton Residence, Mater Dei Residence and as needed for special events.
  • Washes, peels, cuts and shreds vegetables and fruits to prepare them for use.
  • Prepares soups, casseroles, and salads. Measures and mixes ingredients according to recipe.
  • Observes and tests food being cooked by piercing with fork or tasting when necessary to determine that it is cooked and properly seasoned.
  • Carves meats, portions food on serving plates, adds gravies, sauces, and garnishes to display attractive servings.
  • Plans and implements a personal development program utilizing internal and external resources to assure continuing professional growth.
  • Adheres to strict safety practices and is constantly conscious of unsafe or potentially unsafe working conditions and makes every effort to correct or report hazards to the proper authority.
  • Must be able to endure at least four to eight hours continuous work (depending upon assigned shift) requiring physical demands including but not limited to standing, walking, climbing, stooping, bending, stretching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying.

The Schedule

Part Time - 32 Hours Bi-Weekly

Hours vary from 8:00am-4:30pm and 6:00am-2:30pm. No holidays and occasional weekends.

Qualifications we're looking for.

  • Must be able to endure at least four to eight hours continuous work (depending upon assigned shift) requiring physical demands including but not limited to standing, walking, climbing, stooping, bending, stretching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying.
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent required.
  • At least three months experience in hospital or institutional cooking is required.
  • Must know how to operate and care for institutional kitchen equipment and appliances and be alert to hazards.
  • Must know how to plan, organize, and measure ingredients to provide a well-balanced meal in a timely basis.
