What is kitchen cabinet design?

Kitchen cabinet design is the process of planning, creating, and arranging cabinetry to optimize storage, functionality, and aesthetics in a kitchen. Designers take into account the kitchen's layout, style preferences, budget, and specific storage needs when selecting materials, finishes, and hardware. A well-designed kitchen cabinet layout maximizes available space, improves workflow, and enhances the overall look and feel of the kitchen.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a kitchen cabinet designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Kitchen Cabinet Designer, you need a solid understanding of interior design principles, cabinetry construction, and spatial planning, often supported by a degree or certification in interior design or a related field. Proficiency with CAD software, 3D modeling programs, and design visualization tools is typically required. Strong communication, creativity, and attention to detail help designers interpret client needs and create customized solutions. These skills ensure functional, aesthetically pleasing designs that meet client expectations and optimize kitchen spaces.

How does a kitchen cabinet designer typically collaborate with clients and contractors during a project?

Kitchen cabinet designers often work closely with clients to understand their preferences, functional needs, and budget constraints. They collaborate with contractors and installers by creating detailed plans, selecting suitable materials, and ensuring that designs are feasible for the given space. Effective communication is key, as designers regularly coordinate with other professionals, such as architects and interior designers, to make sure that the cabinetry integrates seamlessly with the overall kitchen layout. This collaborative approach helps address potential challenges early and ensures a smooth installation process.

APH Stone & Cabinet Company is a growing kitchen and bathroom remodeling company with an established reputation in the bathroom industry. As we continue expanding our kitchen and cabinet division, we’re looking for the right person to help us take it to the next level.

Who We're Looking For:

This is more than just a design position. We’re looking for someone who wants the opportunity to help build and grow a department.

The right person will take ownership of the kitchen and cabinet side of our business—from working with customers and creating designs to generating sales, helping develop our showroom, and improving how we quote, order, and manage projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Meet with customers and guide them through the design and selection process
  • Design kitchens, bathrooms, cabinetry, islands, and vanities
  • Create layouts, renderings, quotes, and proposals
  • Sell cabinets, countertops, and related products
  • Manage projects from initial consultation through ordering
  • Work with contractors, installers, vendors, and homeowners
  • Help develop showroom displays and product offerings
  • Help establish processes and grow the kitchen and cabinet department

We're Looking For Someone With:

  • Kitchen, bath, or cabinet design experience
  • Cabinet sales experience preferred
  • Experience with 2020 Design, ProKitchen, or similar software
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Attention to detail and good organizational skills
  • A sales-oriented, self-motivated personality
  • The desire to take ownership of a department and help grow it

Compensation:

Competitive base salary + commission/performance incentives, based on experience.

If you’re looking for an opportunity where you can have a real impact and help shape the future of a growing kitchen and bath department, we’d like to hear from you.
