We are seeking a Shop Foreman who can lead from the front โ€” someone who combines strong technical expertise with leadership ability to support technician development, maintain shop morale, and drive operational excellence.

Position Overview

The Shop Foreman plays a critical leadership role in the service department, acting as both a senior technical resource and a mentor to the technician team. This individual helps technicians diagnose complex repairs, ensures efficient workflow, maintains shop standards, and supports leadership in building a high-performing service team.

Success in this role means supporting business growth by developing the right people, implementing effective processes, and fostering a shop environment that technicians are proud to be part of.

Shop Operations & Workflow
  • Ensure fair and effective job dispatch based on technician skill level

  • Help maintain promise times and shop productivity standards

  • Ensure accurate repair documentation and warranty compliance

  • Maintain special tools, equipment, and inspection station readiness

  • Monitor shop cleanliness, safety, and organization

Core ResponsibilitiesSupporting Service Leadership
  • Assist with technician hiring, onboarding, and performance evaluations

  • Help set individual technician goals including hours, training, and performance metrics

  • Evaluate technician strengths and development opportunities

  • Lead technician meetings covering manufacturer updates, goals, and performance feedback

  • Monitor shop productivity and performance daily

Technician Development & Support
  • Provide daily technical assistance and troubleshooting support

  • Ensure training certifications (ASE, manufacturer, Ethos, etc.) remain current

  • Support proper documentation for warranty and customer-pay repairs

  • Verify quality through reracks and inspections

  • Coach technicians through one-on-one sessions and team engagement activities

Customer & Advisor Support
  • Assist advisors and technicians in explaining complex repairs to customers

  • Help manage workflow expectations and communicate delays when necessary

  • Participate in customer ride-alongs when diagnosis clarification is needed

First 90-Day FocusMonth 1
  • Learn internal processes, goal-setting methods, and workflow systems

  • Begin participating in reracks and technician coaching

  • Host technician meetings and engage with the team regularly

  • Monitor daily productivity and shop performance

Month 2
  • Increase involvement in reracks and technician performance reviews

  • Assist in setting monthly technician goals

  • Review customer feedback and operational efficiency

  • Continue coaching and development initiatives

Month 3
  • Maintain ongoing leadership responsibilities

  • Evaluate technician strengths and development needs

  • Optimize dispatch processes if needed

  • Continue coaching and team performance improvements

Qualifications
  • Strong automotive diagnostic and repair experience required

  • Prior foreman, team lead, or senior technician experience preferred

  • Excellent leadership, coaching, and communication skills

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities

  • Experience with dealership systems (CDK or similar preferred)

  • Commitment to safety, quality, and team development
