Job description

Job Summary

The Specialty Gas Filler – Lab Technician is responsible for filling specialty gas (pure / multi-component) high pressure gas cylinders in accordance with established quality and conformance specifications per DOT, FDA, Industry, and Company requirements to ensure quality and conformance specifications are met. Assists with the scheduling of all products production, analysis, finished packaging, labeling, certificates of quality and shipping requirements.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Performs cylinder filling activities of specialty gas products.
    1. Inspects cylinders prior to filling, following standard procedures as required by industry standards and Keen Compressed Gas Pre-Fill requirements, and evacuation of cylinders to eliminate contaminants.
    2. Fill cylinders by pressure/temperature or gravimetrically per regulations, industry standards and company procedures
    3. Ensure cylinders are properly prepared for shipping to include proper product labels per GHS standards, lot labeling, valve shrink wrapping, and quality certs as required.
    4. Completes production control records as required in a timely at the time of production.
    5. Report any problems or issues with equipment or materials to supervisor or other designated personnel.
    6. Maintains a neat, clean, and orderly lab appearance.
    7. Monitoring lead times and effectively prioritizing workloads.
  2. Assists as required with testing, inspection, and analysis of all gas products.
    1. Reviewing and approving analytical results, certificates of analysis and associated documentation per Keen's SOP's and customer requirements.
    2. Coordinates with operations team regarding delivery schedules, product complaints and special product requests.
    3. Support Lab team with regards to maintenance of health/safety and ISO quality programs.
    4. Assists in the maintenance of laboratory standards, including proper inventory, labeling, documentation, storage, and presentation.
    5. Familiar with local, state, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, FDA, DOT, etc.)
    6. Familiar with industry (Gases and Welding Distributor Association and Compressed Gas Association) guidelines.
  1. Assists as required with filling of Medical and Food Grade gases when primary medical gas filler(s) are off or as assistance is required.
    1. Understand Keen Medical cGMP practices and Food Grade procedures to ensure compliance with FDA and Keen requirements.

Job Qualifications

Requirements

  • Associate degree preferred in Chemistry/Science or 2 years of relevant experience of industrial or medical gas cylinder filling.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to coordinate efforts with multiple departments.
  • Aptitude for high precision and accurate detailed work.
  • Ability to operate a forklift and maintain forklift certification.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access).
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex instructions, such as; safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information to co-workers and customers.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees and/or customers.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Physical Abilities

The physical demands described in this job description are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to meet the following physical demands:

  • The employee is required to stand, use hands and arms, and talk/hear. The employee must lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Must complete and pass capabilities testing for this position at Occupational Health facility assigned by Keen Compressed Gas.

Safety

  • Must participate in safety training and attend monthly safety meetings.
  • Must maintain knowledge of Company Safety Manual and all safety policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the safe operation of the Lab and Specialty Gas Fill-rooms.
  • Must wear appropriate PPE (Steel-toed boots, safety glasses, etc)
