Job description

Greer Stop Nut in Nashville, TN has an immediate need for an experienced Machinist on 1st Shift. Candidates should have prior experience operating and performing set-up on Acme Screw Machines, Davenport Screw Machines, or other similar type of machining equipment.

At Greer Stop Nut, we manufacture specialty threaded locking fasteners (a.k.a. nuts) used in the aerospace and nautical industries on items such as jets and submarines. The manufacturing process of these pieces are carefully monitored to ensure the highest level of quality is always ensured. Schedule: Start time is 5:00AM and the shift ends at 2:30 PM Monday - Friday

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Operate assigned machine(s) to manufacture parts to required specifications.
  • Use sample parts, blueprints, and schematics to determine the method and order of operations.
  • Protect machines and machined product by following processes and procedures such as part loading, being in control of the machine, and safely transporting product over short distances.
  • Maintain product quality through monitoring and adjusting machine offsets as needed.
  • Perform and record in-process inspection actions such as measuring and validating part features regarding dimensional tolerances and specifications.
  • Perform first article and buyoff.
  • Perform setup operations which includes setting up fixtures and cutting tools.
  • Perform inspection tasks of intermediate complexity interacting with drawings and more advanced inspection tools.
  • Meet production demands as assigned.
  • Run production on multiple machines at once. (Primary & Secondary)
  • Work safely under functional safety guidelines such as PPE and equipment interaction
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Prior experience operating Swiss-style Screw Machine equipment or other similar devices used for machining metal parts.
  • A working knowledge of setting and adjusting offsets, and ability to accurately adjust and/or change cams and gears.
  • The ability to identify and correctly load and secure fixtures with minimal assistance.
  • A working knowledge of shop math including tool geometry, positive and negative numbers, as well as basic geometry.
  • The ability to read basic prints and apply basic dimensional specifications to inspection processes.

Required Experience:

  • Typically, this position requires evidence of success in advanced machining duties for at least two years prior to hire.

Level of Education:

  • High School diploma or GED is expected
