Job description

Steel Dynamics

This position will report directly to Steel Dynamics Treasurer and will be supporting the Chief Financial Officer and other members of management with, among other items, 1) Contract and Business Administration and 2) management of corporate records and 3) general support for the operations. Professional internal and external communication is an integral component.


A successful candidate will be expected to:

Contract & Business Administration
• Provide tactical legal consulting to various operational and corporate management with respect to general business matters;
• Development, review and monitoring of (with outside counsel’s direction, when appropriate) of contracts with suppliers, service providers and customers, including standard terms and conditions and NDAs.

Other Responsibilities
• Review & Monitoring Outside Counsel / Review Invoicing;
• Bankruptcy / Credit Rights;
• Management of US Legal Entities / Corporate Records for Subsidiaries;
• Assist Outside Counsel with Management of Mexican Legal Entities;
• Financial Transactions / Due Diligence;
• Litigation Support; and
• Other duties as required


• Juris Doctor and licensed to practice law in the State of Indiana (or licensed to practice law in another state with willingness to seek admission to the Indiana Bar)
• Minimum of 5 to 7 years of relevant business law experience (or equivalent)
• Public company law experience is additive, but is not required
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as a team member with excellent interpersonal skills
• Excellent time management skills, ability to multi-task

We operate using a circular manufacturing model, producing lower-carbon-emission, quality steel using electric arc furnace (EAF) technology with recycled ferrous scrap as the primary input. Our circular economy is powered by our three primary operating platforms: steel, metals recycling, and steel fabrication. Our steel operations produce steel products, including hot roll, cold roll, and coated sheet steel, structural steel beams and shapes, rail, engineered special-bar-quality steel, cold finished steel, merchant bar products, and specialty steel sections. Our metals recycling operations collect and process ferrous and nonferrous scrap from manufacturing and end-of-life items, such as automobiles, appliances, and machinery. This processed scrap is then sold to end-users for reuse, including our EAF steel mills, which produce new steel from the scrapped material. We sell a meaningful amount of steel to our own steel fabrication operations that in turn produce and sell structural steel joist and deck building systems to consumers.
