Job Description: Junior Varsity Boys Hockey Coach
Position Title: Junior Varsity (JV) Boys Hockey Coach
Reports To: Director of Athletics / Head Varsity Hockey Coach
Employment Type: Seasonal, Part-Time
Position Summary
The Junior Varsity Boys Hockey Coach is responsible for leading, developing, and managing the JV hockey program in alignment with the school's athletic mission and the vision of the varsity program. This coach will foster a positive, competitive, and inclusive team environment that emphasizes skill development, character, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The JV coach plays a key role in preparing student-athletes for success at the varsity level.
Key Responsibilities
Coaching & Player Development
  • Teach and reinforce fundamental hockey skills, team systems, and game strategies appropriate for JV-level student-athletes.
  • Create age-appropriate practice plans to maximize individual and team improvement.
  • Provide constructive feedback and individualized development plans for players.
  • Promote a positive culture of hard work, accountability, and respect on and off the ice.
Program Leadership
  • Collaborate closely with the Head Varsity Coach to ensure alignment in philosophy, skill progression, and team expectations.
  • Assist in maintaining a structured and competitive JV program that supports the long-term growth of the hockey program.
  • Implement safety guidelines and uphold all school, league, and state athletic policies.
Team Management
  • Supervise students at all practices, games, team events, and travel.
  • Manage communication with players, families, and athletic department staff.
  • Oversee team equipment, uniforms, locker room standards, and bench organization.
Culture & Character
  • Model exemplary sportsmanship, professionalism, and leadership.
  • Build strong relationships with student-athletes grounded in trust, encouragement, and mentorship.
  • Support the academic expectations and well-being of all players.
Qualifications
Required
  • Prior playing or coaching experience in hockey (high school, club, college, or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of hockey fundamentals, systems, and positional play.
  • Ability to work effectively with adolescent athletes.
  • Demonstrated commitment to sportsmanship, player safety, and positive coaching.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
Preferred
  • Previous coaching experience at the youth or high school level.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
