What types of projects and responsibilities can a Junior Transportation Engineer expect in their first year on the job?

As a Junior Transportation Engineer, you will typically assist with traffic studies, roadway design, and data collection for transportation projects. Early responsibilities often include preparing technical reports, drafting engineering plans using CAD software, and supporting senior engineers in project coordination. You'll likely collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including planners and construction professionals, and may also attend site visits to observe field conditions. This hands-on experience helps you build foundational skills, understand regulatory requirements, and prepare for more independent work as you progress in your career.
