Senior Mechanical Estimator

Location: Rochester, NY
Employment Type: Full-Time

A well-established employee-owned mechanical contracting and construction company is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Estimator to join its estimating team. The organization specializes in delivering complex industrial, institutional, laboratory, healthcare, and commercial construction projects. About the Role

The Senior Mechanical Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for large-scale mechanical and plumbing construction projects. This position supports Design-Build, Design-Assist, and Hard Bid opportunities and works closely with project teams, subcontractors, and suppliers throughout the estimating process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare complete Mechanical and Plumbing estimates for projects exceeding $10 million.

  • Develop estimates for Design-Build, Design-Assist, and Hard Bid projects.

  • Produce accurate estimates from schematic design documents.

  • Prepare comparative estimates based on multiple design alternatives.

  • Develop subcontractor scopes, negotiate pricing, and issue subcontracts.

  • Solicit and evaluate vendor and supplier pricing while negotiating buyout costs.

  • Review project specifications, drawings, and contract documents.

  • Perform material takeoffs, prepare purchase orders, and support project controls.

  • Coordinate with project managers and other stakeholders throughout the estimating process.

  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior estimators.

Required Qualifications
  • Extensive experience estimating Mechanical Piping, Plumbing, and Heavy Construction projects.

  • Proven success in a Hard Bid estimating environment.

  • Experience preparing complete Mechanical and Plumbing estimates for projects valued at $10 million or more.

  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, front-end specifications, and project documentation.

  • Experience negotiating with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work independently.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • HVAC ductwork estimating experience is preferred but not required.

  • Willingness to relocate for project assignments, if necessary.
