Junior Estimator – Heavy Civil, Highway & Construction
IOC Company, LLC is currently seeking a Junior Estimator for our South Texas Region. This role will support the estimating team in all aspects of the bidding process, including quantity take-offs, data entry, and coordination with internal teams and subcontractors. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual looking to build a career in heavy civil construction. This position is based in our Mission, Texas office.
Position Summary:
The primary objective of this role is to assist in the preparation of cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects, including roadway and transportation infrastructure work.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with quantity take-offs from plans and specifications
  • Support pricing and bid preparation for construction projects
  • Work with the estimating team to develop accurate and competitive bid proposals
  • Review project plans, specifications, and related documents
  • Assist in subcontractor and supplier solicitation during the bidding process
  • Communicate with vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams to gather pricing and project information
  • Support the preparation and organization of bid documents and proposals
  • Assist with project scheduling efforts as directed by senior estimators
  • Maintain organized project files, bid documents, and estimate records
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and training as needed
  • Assist with bid closeout and final proposal assembly
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management
Skills and Abilities:
  • Basic knowledge of construction estimating principles (internship or coursework acceptable)
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to learn estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications (preferred but not required)
  • Strong willingness to learn and grow in the heavy civil construction industry
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred (or in progress)
  • 0–2 years of experience in construction estimating, internships, or related field experience preferred
