As a junior software developer, your primary responsibilities are to learn the codebase, work on small bug fixes, and participate in paired programming with mid-level and senior developers. Junior software developers are entry-level positions, but as you gain experience and build up your programming skills, you will start to take on larger projects. Your job duties include attending and contributing to development team meetings, troubleshooting, patching computer code, and collaborating with other developers to create applications.

What does a junior software developer do?

A Junior Software Developer is an entry-level professional who assists in designing, coding, testing, and maintaining software applications. They typically work under the supervision of more experienced developers and contribute to various stages of the software development lifecycle. Key responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and implementation of new features and enhancements for Mobius Autonomous Software.

  • Write and maintain high-quality, efficient, and scalable code in C#, adhering to industry best practices and standards.

  • Lead the full software development lifecycle, from complex requirements analysis and system architecture design through coding, testing, and deployment.

Job description

At ASI, we are revolutionizing industries with state-of-the-art autonomous robotics solutions. We deliver technologies that enhance safety, productivity, and efficiency. With our core values of Simplicity, Safety, Transparency, Humility, Attention to Detail, Autonomy and Growth guiding everything we do, we're shaping the future of automation in dynamic markets.

The Blitz Team is ASI's rapid-execution engineering group, focused on quickly turning new concepts into working autonomous systems. As a cross-functional team spanning software, electrical, mechanical, systems, and field operations, Blitz accelerates product development, validates new ideas, and helps launch customer pilot programs on real equipment in real operating environments. Team members thrive in a fast-paced setting where adaptability, hands-on problem solving, and a willingness to tackle whatever is needed are key to success.

As a C# Software Engineer III on the Blitz Team, you hold a senior position leading the development and maintenance of Mobius Autonomous Software. The role requires a high level of technical expertise, extensive experience, and the ability to drive complex projects from inception to completion. You will provide strategic direction, mentor junior team members, and ensure that the software meets the highest standards of quality and performance.

What makes this different from a standard Mobius role is the pace and the proximity to the machine. You will write production C# for concepts that are still being proven, then follow that code out to the equipment to see whether it holds up. Expect to work alongside electrical, mechanical, systems, and field operations engineers on the same problem, and to travel to test sites and customer pilots.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and implementation of new features and enhancements for Mobius Autonomous Software.

  • Write and maintain high-quality, efficient, and scalable code in C#, adhering to industry best practices and standards.

  • Lead the full software development lifecycle, from complex requirements analysis and system architecture design through coding, testing, and deployment.

  • Oversee integration of Mobius software with advanced hardware components, optimizing for seamless and efficient autonomous operations.

  • Take new capabilities from prototype to working system on real equipment, on Blitz timelines.

  • Support customer pilot programs in the field, diagnosing issues on live machines and folding what you learn back into the code.

  • Conduct sophisticated testing and debugging to ensure the highest levels of software functionality, performance, and reliability.

  • Partner with product managers, stakeholders, and engineers across disciplines to turn complex business requirements into robust technical solutions.

  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level engineers.

  • Lead code reviews, holding the team to coding standards and promoting best practices.

  • Contribute to strategic planning and decision-making, providing technical expertise and insight.

  • Track emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices, and apply them to improve the team and the product.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

  • 5 to 10 years of experience in software development, with a significant portion in senior or leadership roles.

  • Expert proficiency in C#, with a proven track record of architecting, developing, and maintaining complex software applications.

  • Extensive experience with software development methodologies such as Agile or Scrum.

  • Deep understanding of software design principles, algorithms, and data structures.

  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas and collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to lead and manage multiple complex projects simultaneously, with strong attention to detail.

  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment where requirements shift as concepts are validated.

  • Willingness to work hands-on with real equipment and to travel to test sites and customer pilots as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of autonomous technology, robotics, or related domains.

  • Experience with other relevant programming languages and technologies, such as C++, Python, or the .NET Framework.

  • Strong familiarity with software testing frameworks and continuous integration tools.

  • Experience with version control systems such as Git.

  • Demonstrated experience in software development for autonomous systems, robotics, or related fields.

  • Ability to analyze and improve system performance, scalability, and reliability.

  • Experience debugging software on physical hardware in outdoor or field conditions.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position at a computer workstation for extended periods.

  • Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity equipment continuously.

  • Ability to communicate and exchange information in person, via phone, and through electronic means.

  • Ability to traverse office, lab, shop, and field environments as required.
