In 1903, out of a small shed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, four young men lit a cultural wildfire that would grow and spread across geographies and generations. The Staff Engineer - Electrical Systems Architecture will provide strategic technical leadership for the development of vehicle electrical systems and components. This role is responsible for defining system architecture, establishing technical standards, guiding key design decisions, and shaping the future direction of vehicle electrical systems while influencing long-term platform strategy.

Job Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the definition, decomposition, and governance of electrical system requirements and architecture, ensuring requirements are clear, testable, traceable, and aligned with business and technical objectives
  • Lead system-level technical decisions and establish architecture principles and technical standards that reduce complexity, improve reuse, and support long-term platform strategy
  • Identify system integration risks, architectural gaps, and technical tradeoffs early in development, and lead cross-functional resolution of complex technical issues
  • Own Functional Safety work products, including item definition, safety requirements, hazard analysis, traceability, and verification artifacts, to support compliance with product development and ISO 26262 expectations
  • Define verification strategies across supplier, bench, HIL, and vehicle validation environments to ensure components and systems meet performance, quality, and functional targets

  • Provide strategic technical leadership for vehicle electrical systems by driving architecture direction, leading technical reviews and design governance, and mentoring design engineers and Tier 1 suppliers to ensure execution aligns with architecture intent, validation requirements, and launch readiness
  • Collaborate effectively with global teams, including internal stakeholders and suppliers; this role may require occasional early morning meetings to support global engagement

Education Required:

  • This position requires a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field.  Master's degree preferred.

Experience Required:

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 8 years of related experience and a demonstrated track record in the following areas:

  • Strong technical depth in current vehicle technologies and awareness of emerging technologies, with the ability to influence future product and platform direction
  • Demonstrated problem-solving capability with experience leading issue resolution from data collection and analysis through root cause identification, solution development, and implementation
  • Direct experience in motor vehicle engineering and design is preferred, including automotive, motorcycle, truck and bus, agriculture, or related industries
  • Required experience with Functional Safety, including requirements authoring, test case development, and traceability within a product development process; ISO 26262 experience is strongly preferred, and Functional Safety certification is desired
  • Experience with Quality Engineering deliverables, including DFMEAs and Design Validation Plans and Test Reports
  • Proven success coordinating internal stakeholders and suppliers to deliver against aggressive quality and performance objectives, with the ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams without direct authority
  • Ability to communicate technical subjects in a clear, concise manner to multiple levels of the organization
  • Experience establishing electrical architecture principles, technical standards, and design governance to deliver robust, scalable, and reusable system solutions across programs is preferred
  • Experience with requirements and issue management tools such as Helix ALM and Jira, as well as quality and verification methods including DFMEA, DVP&R, bench, HIL, and vehicle validation, is preferred
