HDR is looking to hire a Bridge Engineer for the "Moving I-4 Forward" project. Florida is experiencing unprecedented population growth and welcoming record-setting numbers of annual visitors. In response, the state is actively working to address infrastructure needs statewide. As part of Governor DeSantis' Moving Florida Forward Infrastructure Initiative, a Corridor Project Office (CPO) has been established to expedite a series of projects in Central Florida, including along I-4 from west of U.S. 27 in Polk County to east of S.R. 536 in Orange County and the new Poinciana Connector (S.R. 538). Dubbed "Moving I-4 Forward," these projects will provide congestion relief up to 15 years sooner than originally scheduled and will improve mobility, increase safety, enhance the quality of life for the community, and ensure the resiliency of the transportation system in the future.
As a Bridge Engineer working on this dynamic project at the CPO in Celebration, Florida you will be in daily contact with project officials and other engineers, while supporting the Structures Program Manager in implementing the structures program. As a part of the program, you will work with roadway, drainage, structures and other engineers and designers to develop request for proposal (RFP) documents, concept plans and specifications for procurement of design/build (DB) teams. In addition, you will develop calculations and quantities in support of these elements. Your duties will also include review of submittals from the DB teams and various other tasks in support of the Structures Program Manager. This project offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity to advance your career.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Apply structural engineering and detailing techniques
  • Work on projects that typically include bridge (steel plate girder, prestress concrete, segmental and cable) box culvert, and interchange design for highway and railway projects
  • Select standard bridge engineering/design procedures, develop structural details using specialized structural design and analysis software, and perform structural load calculations and assist with geometric layout and quantity development
  • Review, assign work and/or check design calculations, estimates, and specifications produced by junior engineers and EITs
  • Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in bridge design
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience working on Florida Department of Transportation projects

  • Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu and engineering software packages such as: LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB-MultiPier, LPile, AASHTOWare BrR, midas Civil, MDX, SAP2000, CSiBridge, RM Bridge, spColumn, STLBridgeLRFD, or STLBridge.
  • Knowledge of ADINA, LUSAS, Bently OpenBridge Designer and OpenBridge Modeler and/or Autodesk Infraworks and Civil3d.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, MicroStation, AutoCAD, MathCAD, LARSA, Prestress Concrete Design
  • Experience using structural analysis programs and bridge design software
  • Experience managing junior staff
  • Excellent communication skills and working in a team environment
