Job description

Providence Hall is a charter school located in Herriman, UT. Central to the school's mission is teaching students to think critically, communicate effectively, and act responsibly.


Providence Hall is accepting applications for part-time food services staff to join our team at our Elementary, Junior High, or High School campus. This role may include a combination of meal preparation/cooking and cafeteria service duties, depending on campus and position.


Schedule:

  • 20-25 hours/week
  • Specific shift times and weekly hours vary by campus and role
  • Includes department, building, and LEA professional development, trainings, and meetings as applicable


Responsibilities:

Food Preparation & Cooking (applicable to kitchen/cooking roles)

  • Prepare and cook hot menu items according to standardized recipes, production records, and meal pattern requirements
  • Maintain proper food temperatures, portion control, and presentation during service
  • Assist with daily kitchen setup, food prep, and service line readiness
  • Assist with receiving, storing, and rotating food and supplies following FIFO procedures
  • Support special dietary needs as directed (allergies, medical diets, or accommodations)

Cafeteria Service & Student Supervision

  • Serve food to students in a friendly, professional, and age-appropriate manner
  • Monitor students during breakfast and/or lunch
  • Use the school's positive behavior intervention system to reward students
  • Assist students during meal times with items needing to be opened
  • Wipe and clean tables; sweep (and mop, where applicable) under tables
  • Assist with breaking down cafeteria tables

General

  • Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures, including proper handwashing, glove use, and cleaning protocols
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, work areas, and service lines during and after meal service
  • Follow all school policies, safety procedures, and supervisory instructions
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support the food services department and school in general
  • Maintain effective communication channels to ensure a collaborative school community
  • Actively participate in assigned meetings, professional developments, and other trainings
  • Other responsibilities as assigned


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., traverse school facilities, and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, loud, and noisy kitchen/cafeteria environment with heat, noise, and time constraints, around many youth
  • Possess an even temper and good work ethic
  • Good organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to multitask easily
  • Positive interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to maintain calm in high-stress situations
  • Willing to effectively problem-solve as needed
  • Capacity to perform all responsibilities listed in this posting
  • Food Handler's permit or ability to obtain within 2 weeks of starting work
  • Must pass a comprehensive background check, including criminal history, and professional references as a condition of employment
