Job Description

We are currently seeking a qualified Junior Process Engineer to join our Energy team based in Calgary, AB. The Junior Process Engineer will be responsible for applying established process engineering principles, methods, and procedures to support project and design activities. Working on assignments with clearly defined objectives, you will perform engineering calculations, analyze data, and contribute to process design solutions while exercising sound engineering judgment within established guidelines. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, clients, and field personnel to exchange technical information and support successful project execution.

Duties & Responsibilities include:

  • Performs work within the Process discipline which involves the preparation, interpretation or review of calculations, specifications, plans, investigations, systems or equipment with some basic degree of complexity;
  • Participates in the following:
    • process design, including simulations, concept sketches and layouts;
    • the use of engineering computer programs and solutions;
    • preparation or review of engineering studies and reports;
    • preparation of process specifications and design calculations;
    • equipment design and development;
    • preparation of drawings (PFDs, P&IDs, DPDTs…)
    • collaboration with Piping and Plant Layout, Mechanical, Civil, Control Systems and Electrical engineering disciplines.
  • Reviews design documents of equipment manufacturers or subcontractors of a basic degree of complexity and prepares comments and recommendations;
  • Acts as a strong team player within the home office engineering team.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited university. Registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with the applicable provincial engineering regulatory body (e.g., APEGA), with the ability to progress toward a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation, is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience, including design engineering, systems startup, field engineering, plant operations, utilities, process facilities, or engineering/construction environments; or
  • Demonstrated knowledge of process engineering fundamentals, including process calculations, process systems, equipment, process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), plant layout, material selection, and computer-based process engineering applications.
  • Familiarity with engineering work planning and control methods, as well as applicable industry codes, standards, regulations, and design criteria relevant to the process engineering discipline.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook), SharePoint, PDF markup software, and industry-standard process simulation tools such as Aspen HYSYS, UniSim, PRO/II, and ProMax.
