Job description

Wood is currently recruiting for a Senior Process Lead to support complex upgrading, refining, and petrochemical projects within our Projects Canada portfolio.

This role will lead process engineering execution across multiple projects and phases, including conceptual studies, FEED, and detailed design. The successful candidate will combine strong technical expertise with leadership capabilities to deliver high-quality engineering solutions while managing client relationships and project performance.

We are seeking experienced professionals who can provide technical direction, mentor teams, and ensure the successful delivery of process engineering scopes in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment.

The Role

The Senior Process Lead is responsible for leading process engineering teams and delivering process design scopes across multiple projects. This includes technical oversight, resource coordination, client engagement, and ensuring deliverables meet quality, schedule, and budget requirements.

You will act as a key interface between engineering disciplines, project management, and clients, while driving technical excellence and supporting team development.

  • Expected:
    Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering
    Registered and in good standing with APEGA
    Minimum 10 years of process engineering experience in refining, upgrading, or petrochemical industries
    Strong proficiency in Aspen HYSYS (ProMax is an asset)

    Strong understanding of process engineering fundamentals

  • Lead of a team of process engineers and apply strong refinery knowledge and experience to execute and deliver several MOCs in parallel.
  • Work independently on smaller MOC jobs, making key decisions in a timely manner to support tight schedules.
  • Listen to and work with the Client to support their needs and requirements with professionalism and efficiency.
  • Present and deliver findings clearly to the project team and the Client.
  • Use strong technical knowledge to complete process engineering deliverables and tasks with minimal guidance and direction.
  • Develop process simulations and heat and material balances.
  • Conduct process equipment and line sizing and optimize process control strategy to support PFD and P&ID development.
  • Coordinate effectively with other engineering disciplines and functional groups.
  • Complete conceptual studies through to detail engineering stages within timeline and budget.
  • Offer support and guidance to junior and intermediate process engineers.
  • Distribute work effectively across the team.
  • Perform checking of all process engineering deliverables in accordance with industry codes, standards and guidelines, and client specifications.
  • Conduct regular reporting, scheduling, resource planning and coordination with workshare offices.
  • Keep updated on technical skills and on new technologies in industry.
