Job description

The Engineering Coop Program within North American Construction Group will provide you with valuable exposure to heavy equipment reliability/maintenance engineering.

We are currently looking to hire a Condition Based Monitoring Engineer Co-op student for our co-op program based out of our Acheson office, located 10 minutes west of Edmonton. We are looking for either an 8 or 12 month term term. 

Our Acheson location houses both our head office, on the upper level and our maintenance shop, on the ground floor. The shop is our main coordination point for the maintenance of the NACG owned and operated fleet. NACG owns over 600 pieces of heavy equipment including hydraulic shovels, excavators, haul trucks, dozers, graders, articulating trucks, skid steers and other types of heavy equipment.

Working under the direction of the Condition Based Monitoring Engineer, the successful candidate will work with reliability engineers, OEM/Vendor engineers, maintenance planners and supervision, mechanics and upper management to reduce the operating and maintenance costs of the NACG heavy equipment fleet. This will be accomplished via maintenance and component improvements, with a focus on condition-based monitoring via a new system that NACG is implementing.

  • Analysis of real-time heavy equipment health and location data to generate targeted, field actionable equipment maintenance actions daily
  • We focus on generating real-world results from any alerts that get generated
  • Assisting with the setup, development and continuous improvement of the maintenance reliability program at NACG
  • Direct communication with site personnel to discuss and implement action plans on reliability results
  • Equipment component (engines, transmissions, final drives, ) viewings on failed and non-failed major machine components to determine root cause of failure and effect of reliability analysis follow up actions
  • Analysis of long-term trends in data to identify and resolve product or operational environmental issues with equipment
  • Live, remote monitoring of heavy equipment projects to identify machine faults before resultant damages and analysis of machine data for various reliability focused projects
  • Financial “Return-On-Investment” analysis of condition-based monitoring actions 
  • Acting as a machine health technical resource for site and shop personnel as well as corresponding with vendors and technical personnel on various related projects
  • Working as a part of the Reliability team on various Continuous Improvement projects relating to heavy equipment reliability

  • Our ideal candidates are highly motivated individuals who have excellent communication, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Looking for an opportunity to work in an office environment with some light shop exposure
  • Individuals with an aptitude or a keen interest in machinery or heavy equipment
  • Mechanical Engineering students preferred, however, students of all disciplines in the engineering program will be considered
  • You must hold a valid class 5 driver’s license to be considered for this position
