Reports to: Team Photographers / Senior Director, Communications
Based at: PPG Paints Arena, 1001 Fifth Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15219
Approximate Timeline:
  • This internship posting will remain open until June 1st, 2026.
  • Applicants will be reviewed on a rolling basis and reached out with further communication by June 22nd, 2026, at the latest.
  • Anticipated start date is around September 7th, 2026 and end date is January 1st, 2027.

The game night photography intern will assist the team photographers with setup, photo editing, fulfillment of requests and archiving of game night photography. This internship is onsite at PPG Paints Arena and is open to students entering their junior or senior year in college, with 15 hours of flexible availability each week. The internship is paid hourly at the rate of $10 per hour. Students remain eligible for earning course credits for their internship and will be responsible for ensuring that the internship meets the criteria of their program and/or university.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist photographers with setup of equipment on Penguins home game nights
  • Photograph fan and sponsorship elements on game nights.
  • Other game day and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
  • Crop, caption, tone and apply metadata to photos, and assist with maintenance of photo archive.
  • As needed, assist team photographers with setup and photo shoots, plus carrying equipment and extra gear.
  • Participation in Penguins Intern Program activities including a Group Project and presentation.

Qualifications:
  • Pursuing a degree in photography, or related field
  • Required: Must have completed sophomore year
  • Proficiency with Adobe Bridge, Adobe Photoshop and Photo Mechanic.
  • Photography and photo editing experience.
  • Proficiency in photography techniques including lighting and camera positioning.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism within a sports team environment and in media work zones.
  • General knowledge of hockey terminology for captioning images.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends based on the Penguins schedule of home games
  • Ability to travel to various locations within the community, if needed, for other events
