General Overview The principle packaging engineer is capable of managing all packaging aspects for a business unit. Is seen as a technical expert in the field and is a key technical lead on project teams. Provides technical expertise within the packaging functional team. Identifies and assesses complex technical problems and provides solutions and recommendations. Manages divisional packaging priorities and resources. Holds a technical leadership role on the packaging functional team by developing and inspiring technical competency. Provides clear technical direction and sets priorities for package engineering direct reports (range of 0-5 reports). Serves as a technical mentor to junior engineers. Technical Skills/Job Knowledge/Other Dimensions Ability to Execute projects on time and on budget without guidance from manager. Proactively anticipates issues and determines contingency plans. Sets up realistic timelines and testing plans. Works well with cross functional partners to execute projects with excellence. Tenaciously attacks programs. Is committed to achieving goals, through obstacles, issues and surprises. Able to change direction quickly if needed. Sets high standards of performance. Is assertive and persistent in project work and communication. Seen as a technical expert in packaging. Expert technical background in Packaging, Packaging Systems. Broad knowledge in all types of packaging used in terms of material properties, strengths and limitations of materials as well as knowledge of suppliers' converting and manufacturing processes. Able to solve complex technical issues without support. Communicates in a timely, concise and effective manner, both written and verbally. Able to present to V.P. levels in the organization without support from management. Active listener, interactive in meetings insuring POV is expressed and understood by cross functional team members. Ability to act in an appropriate manner in varying business situations. Open to others input, without getting defensive. Seeks support from cross functional partners for new initiatives and approaches. Able to rally cross functional peers to goal or action.
