Summary
A growing plumbing contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Plumbing Designer to lead the design and coordination of commercial plumbing systems from concept through construction. This role is responsible for producing high-quality plumbing designs, mentoring junior designers, and working closely with project managers, engineers, and field teams to deliver accurate, code-compliant construction documents.
Projects include commercial, multifamily, healthcare, education, hospitality, retail, industrial, and tenant improvement work. This is an excellent opportunity for a technical leader who enjoys solving complex design challenges and collaborating throughout the design-build process.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design of commercial plumbing systems from schematic design through construction
- Prepare detailed plumbing drawings using AutoCAD and Revit
- Design domestic water, sanitary, vent, storm, natural gas, and specialty piping systems
- Perform plumbing design calculations and equipment sizing
- Coordinate plumbing systems with architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines
- Review shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and design revisions
- Mentor junior designers and provide technical guidance
- Work closely with Project Managers, engineers, and field teams during design and construction
- Ensure designs comply with UPC, IPC, ADA, and local building codes
- Participate in project meetings and support construction throughout project delivery

Requirements
- 7+ years of plumbing design experience
- Strong commercial plumbing design experience required
- Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD
- Experience designing domestic water, sanitary, vent, storm, and gas systems
- Strong understanding of UPC, IPC, and local plumbing codes
- Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary design teams
- Ability to review drawings for quality control and constructability
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting, Design Technology, or related field
- Experience with multifamily, healthcare, education, hospitality, or commercial projects
- Design-build project experience preferred
- Familiarity with LEED and sustainable design practices
- Experience mentoring junior designers and reviewing technical work
