Join our team as a Project Engineer or Senior Project Engineer within our Utilities (Water/Wastewater) practice area.


This is a hybrid role based out of our Cary, North Carolina office.


In this role, you will develop, calibrate, and analyze hydraulic models for water distribution and wastewater collection systems. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative solutions that improve system performance and resilience for communities across North Carolina.


Candidates at the Project Engineer level will focus on technical modeling, analysis, and project support. Those at the Senior Project Engineer level will bring deeper technical expertise and may take on additional responsibilities such as leading modeling efforts, mentoring junior staff, and supporting project management and client coordination.


Ideal candidates have strong technical expertise in hydraulic modeling software, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, calibrate, and maintain hydraulic models for water distribution and wastewater collection systems
  • Analyze model results and provide data-driven recommendations to support system planning and design
  • Support project teams with system assessments, master planning, and infrastructure design solutions
  • Prepare technical reports, memorandums, and presentations for clients and project teams
  • (Senior Project Engineer level) Lead modeling tasks and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and project staff
  • (Senior Project Engineer level) Support project management activities including scope development, scheduling, and client coordination

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical engineering or related field
  • Project Engineer Level - 4+ years of related experience in the field of specialty
  • Senior Project Engineer Level - 10+ years of related experience in the field of specialty
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (or ability to obtain license within 12 months of hiring)
  • Proficiency in hydraulic modeling software, including WaterGEMS, WaterCAD, SewerGEMS, SewerCAD, and PCSWMM
  • Experience with ArcGIS and AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
  • Handle multiple tasks under pressure and prioritize responsibilities
  • Highly self-motivated, able to anticipate and initiate subsequent project tasks, working independently or with minimal instruction
  • Ability and willingness to mentor and lead technical staff
  • Experience in planning, scheduling, and tracking milestones, tasks, budget, and activities
  • Experience with common statistical programming languages such as R or Python (preferred but not required)
  • Experience with wastewater process modeling software like BioWin (preferred but not required)

Working Conditions
