Job description

Worker Type:

EmployeeThe Mainframe Systems Programmer provides support for on-going projects that require the installation, testing, and implementation of new operating systems and other 'system' software. Also, the Maintenance and debugging of systems software. Coordination and the IOGEN work for new MF hardware. Research and evaluation of new software and hardware products, assisting team members and other areas with technical questions and problem resolution. Monitoring and tuning of systems software. Functional knowledge, use of z/OS components and detailed knowledge of support products such as tape management, scheduling, security, monitoring systems, etc.

In this role you will be joining a team of technical professionals supporting a large-scale z/OS systems platform. This position requires an experienced systems programmer with at least 8 years of experience supporting the z/OS Mainframe Network environment. Responsibilities include configuring and maintaining the integrity and data/IP security of the Mainframe's host communication subsystems and associated program products.

Responsibilities

As a Mainframe Network Specialist, you'll need to know how to:

Perform TCPIP Port Reserves (Additions, Deletions, Changes) Perform VTAM updates (Additions, Deletions, Changes)

Manage OSA Adapters in a complex Mainframe environment

Perform VTAM PU/LU updates (Additions, Deletions, Changes) including Enterprise Extenders (EE)

Understand the configuration/installation of network products (Connect Direct, ASG OUTBOUND) and support FTP, SFTP and FTP/TLS

Implement AT-TLS rules (digital certificate management). Configure and manage IPSEC policies (permit/deny rules, VPN- ipsec tunnels)

Trace, Debug and Error Analysis

Support Client Disaster Recovery Exercises

Problem and Change Management Service Request Management

Communicate regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure Network connectivity and security.

Act as a Mainframe Networking resource for internal and external department projects.

Mandatory skills*

Must have extensive experience of Mainframe Network (VTAM) systems programming. This is essential to the role.

Must have knowledge of all the following z/OS, SMP/E, TSO/ISPF, USS, SDSF, JCL.

Session Management products e.g. TPX, Teleview, CL/Supersession

Network Management products e.g. NETVIEW, Netmaster/TCPIP

Must be able to work independently.

Must have excellent problem determination skills and be a true team player.

You will be required to provide off hours support for the implementation of software changes and support for other projects requiring software expertise as well as be part of an on-call rotation.

Set and achieved challenging short, medium and long term goals which exceeded the standards in their field

Excellent written and spoken communication skills; an ability to communicate with impact, ensuring complex information is articulated in a meaningful way to wide and varied audiences

Built effective networks across business areas, developing relationships based on mutual trust and encouraging others to do the same

Have some experience of creating and deploying comprehensive business/operating plans which consistently deliver desired results
