Job description

Chubb is seeking a Junior Legal Analyst/Paralegal with a commercial litigation background to join its Philadelphia, PA office. Ideally, the successful candidate will have familiarity with and understanding of commercial and personal insurance policies and insurance-related litigation. This is an in-office role.

The candidate will provide legal support to Chubb's in-house counsel within the North American Global Litigation team on a wide variety of matters including business, employment, bankruptcy, and coverage litigation, insurance coverage issues, the incoming legal process, and other legal issues involving Chubb. 

The Legal Analyst/Paralegal should be a team player who is able to manage relationships at all levels of the organization. The following skills will be vital in this role:

        Litigation: Knowledge of the standard processes and practices required in civil litigation, including the rules of civil procedure, discovery, litigation strategies, motions, subpoenas, and service of process.

        Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple deadlines and changing priorities while working under pressure. Ability to maintain multiple reports and spreadsheets.  Strong follow-up and project management skills. Ability to multi-task, organize, and maintain complex files. Creative problem-solving, critical reading and thinking skills. Eagerness to learn.

        Communication Skills: Strong communication skills (oral, written, and presentation) to communicate effectively with attorneys, internal clients, management, business partners, outside counsel, and others at every level of the organization.

        Professionalism:  Adhere to the Chubb Code of Conduct; maintain confidentiality of proprietary information; practice professionalism when dealing with key executives, officers, attorneys, colleagues, clients and business partners; maintain and respond to deadlines; deliver an excellent work product; take personal accountability of work; and willingness to assist with other assignments as requested by the department.

        Research: Ability to conduct research on dockets, statutes, regulations, and case law; to learn internal data and management systems for the purpose of researching, locating, and retrieving internal information; and creating and distributing useful information. Demonstrated ability to use a variety of legal research tools, including Lexis.

  • Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.  Ability to learn how to utilize various software programs and web-based applications.

        Four-year degree from an accredited college or university.

        Paralegal certification; higher degree would be a plus.

        2 to 4 years of relevant paralegal experience in a law firm or an in-house legal department. Experience working with an insurance company or insurance-related litigation is preferred.
