Job Description

AECOM is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Civil / Environmental Engineer to join our growing Water, Wastewater, and Conveyance team in Columbus, OH. The successful candidate will serve as a technical leader on a variety of municipal infrastructure projects, supporting the planning, design, and delivery of complex water and wastewater systems throughout North America.

This individual will play a key role in delivering high-quality engineering solutions for water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, pump stations, conveyance infrastructure, and treatment facilities. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, technical discipline leads, and clients while providing technical guidance to junior engineers and contributing to the successful execution of multidisciplinary projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, design, and rehabilitation of municipal water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, force mains, gravity sewers, pump stations, and conveyance infrastructure.
  • Prepare and review engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, cost estimates, and construction documents for complex municipal infrastructure projects.
  • Perform hydraulic analyses and system evaluations to support planning and design efforts.
  • Develop and review engineering plans utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D and other engineering software.
  • Serve as a technical resource for multidisciplinary project teams, coordinating with structural, mechanical, electrical, geotechnical, environmental, and construction professionals.
  • Provide technical oversight and quality reviews of engineering deliverables prepared by junior staff.
  • Support project managers with project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and technical execution.
  • Participate in client meetings, technical presentations, and coordination with municipal agencies and regulatory authorities.
  • Support permitting activities and ensure engineering designs comply with applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Review contractor submittals, respond to Requests for Information (RFIs), evaluate change orders, and provide engineering support during construction.
  • Participate in field investigations, site visits, construction observations, and condition assessments as required.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers while promoting technical excellence and adherence to AECOM quality standards.
  • Contribute to delivering projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with AECOM's quality management practices.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS/BA in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related discipline and 8+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • 12+ years of experience designing municipal water, wastewater, and conveyance infrastructure projects.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Strong understanding of municipal utility design principles, engineering standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Experience leading the preparation and review of engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Experience designing water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, force mains, gravity sewers, pump stations, and conveyance infrastructure.
  • Experience performing hydraulic modeling using WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, InfoWater Pro, InfoWorks ICM, Bentley OpenFlows, or similar software.
  • Experience supporting projects through planning, preliminary engineering, final design, bidding, and construction.
  • Familiarity with GIS applications and asset management systems.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and reviewing technical work products.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience interacting directly with municipal clients and project stakeholders.
