Job Summary

Part of a larger team delivering high quality Computer, Network, Storage, Cloud, and End User Infrastructure technology solutions and ongoing support to the business. Plan, research, evaluate, and assist in the design and engineering of the enterprise's technology infrastructure, with a primary focus on Linux and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) platforms. Provide technical support and troubleshooting, contribute to cost estimates, justifications, and recommendations under guidance, and produce technical documentation, system configurations, and support procedures.
Assist with managing, planning, and maintaining technical platforms including Linux system upgrades, patching, and routine maintenance. Monitor system performance and availability and assist with the installation and configuration of hardware and software components.
Collaborate with other job families such as Project Managers, Architects, Solution Engineers, Technicians, and Business Analysts to help deliver consistent, reliable technology solutions aligned with AEP's technology standards, architectures, and best practices.

Job Description

What You'll Do:

Working under limited supervision, responsibilities include the following related to Linuxfocused Computer, Network, Storage, Cloud, and EndUser infrastructure:

  • Perform assigned infrastructure project and operational support tasks with a focus on Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments
  • Coordinate and monitor work activities using approved applications, tools, and documented processes
  • Assist with planning, researching, evaluating, designing, and developing infrastructure systems
  • Provide basic to intermediate Linux technical support, assisting with analysis, administration, operation, and troubleshooting activities
  • Assist with installation, configuration, and maintenance of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and other RHELbased distributions (e.g., Rocky Linux) following established standards
  • Perform routine Linux system administration tasks, including user and group management, permissions, services, package management, and system patching
  • Participate in monitoring system performance, disk usage, resource utilization, and system health, escalating issues as appropriate
  • Assist with preparation of cost estimates, justifications, technical requirements, alternative solutions, and recommendations for routine infrastructure work
  • Participate in the preparation and maintenance of technical documentation including procedures, build documentation, runbooks, manuals, and reports
  • Prepare cost estimates for routine engineering solutions using established guidelines
  • Review and adhere to budgeting and approval processes while assisting with annual and project planning activities
  • Follow documented security, build, patching, and operational standards while learning enterprise Linux engineering best practices

LINUX & PLATFORM SKILLS (ENTRY LEVEL)

  • Assist with Linux system deployment, upgrades, patching, and lifecycle maintenance activities
  • Support standard Linux server builds and configurations using approved templates and procedures
  • Utilize and update existing Ansible playbooks and scripts to support provisioning and operational tasks
  • Develop or modify basic Bash scripts to automate simple administrative activities
  • Assist with implementing OSlevel security controls, patching, firewall configurations, logging, and auditing under guidance
  • Gain exposure to Linux systems running in virtualized and cloud environments
  • Assist with Linux storage configurations, including mounting file systems and supporting shared storage solutions following established procedures
  • Learn enterprise troubleshooting methods and structured problemsolving approaches through handson experience

What We're Looking For:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, Information Technology, or related technical field is required.

Experience:

  • 2 years of relevant work experience is required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Other Must Haves:

  • Linux experience of approximately 2 years, including exposure to Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or RHELbased distributions
  • Understanding of core Linux concepts such as file systems, permissions, users and groups, services, processes, and package management
  • Adhere to policies, procedures, standards, codes, and regulations relevant to assignments
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn enterprise Linux engineering, automation, security, and operational practices
  • Continue building knowledge of Linux platforms, infrastructure environments, components, and facilities to support efficient project execution and problem resolution
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a teamoriented, enterprise infrastructure environment
