The War Data Platform (WDP) is a key initiative within the U.S. Department of War's (DoW) AI-First strategy introduced in early 2026. The WDP separates business and financial data from operational warfighting data, aiming to accelerate the deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) on the battlefield. The WDP extends to Unclassified, Secret, and Top Secret environments, and supports collaboration between Combatant Commands, Joint Staff directorates, Senior Executive Service leaders, and operational analysts.
• The Junior Cloud Engineer provides foundational cloud operations support across WDP's classified and unclassified infrastructure environments under the guidance of senior cloud engineering staff. This is an entry-level role offering hands-on experience with enterprise AWS cloud services in direct support of DoW mission analytics, operational reporting, and enterprise readiness.
• Performs cloud operations support activities by configuring and maintaining foundational Amazon Web Services resources required to sustain mission operations across the War Data Platform (WDP) Core Integration system.
• Monitors compute, storage, and database workloads using CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and service-level dashboards to track utilization, performance anomalies, error trends, and service availability metrics.
• Supports installation, configuration, and update activities for system components under direction from senior engineers, including Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud instances, Simple Storage Service buckets, and Relational Database Service configurations.
• Documents system performance results, storage usage, backup completion status, and capacity projections supporting reporting requirements and asset management activities.
• Executes troubleshooting actions covering connectivity issues, configuration conflicts, and latency problems across cloud networking components.
• Supports disaster recovery exercises by preparing test environments, documenting results, and validating recovery time objectives using approved procedures.
• Assists development personnel by preparing automation scripts, updating infrastructure-as-code templates, and applying configuration parameters required for application deployments.
• Maintains detailed documentation of baseline settings, operational changes, and inventory attributes for all components under management.
• Supports operational review meetings by providing system status updates, performance summaries, and configuration change information.
• Contributes to stable, resilient cloud environments that sustain Department of War mission analytics, operational reporting, and enterprise readiness.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Current Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (TS) security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).
• Exposure to Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation through academic coursework, personal projects, or professional experience supporting automated infrastructure provisioning.
• Familiarity with DevSecOps concepts and CI/CD pipeline principles as applied in federal or classified cloud environments, including basic familiarity with GitLab or similar source control and pipeline platforms.
• Foundational knowledge of AWS cloud services including EC2, S3, RDS, CloudWatch, and CloudTrail, with a working understanding of core cloud infrastructure concepts such as compute, storage, and networking.
