Job description

The opportunity

Associated Engineering, a proudly Canadian, Employee-owned Company is seeking a Junior Electrical Technologist in our Calgary office. In this position, you will work with engineers, technologists, and support staff to provide electrical servicing on a variety of municipal and industrial projects throughout Canada. You will be active in the delivery of servicing to power and automation systems with instrumentation to monitor medium voltage electrical service, process, metering, primary and secondary switchgear, motor control centres, low voltage electrical distributions systems, lighting, fire alarms, and security systems. Projects will include water and wastewater treatment plants, water and wastewater pumping stations, greenhouses, and more. You will visit site as required to perform commissioning activities, inspections, and business development. You will also provide support to other members of our team while working on a variety of projects in a collaborative team environment.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Designing, drafting, and implementing power systems to applicable standards including sizing and selecting system components.
  • Applying engineering principles and techniques to provide electrical engineering and design services for a wide variety of industries and clients.
  • Developing, specifying, and reviewing cable tray & conduit routing, single line drawings, heat tracing, motor power & control schematics, lighting solutions, and standby power systems.
  • Applying industry codes, standards, and safeguards such as the CEC, IEC, NFPA and client company standards to designs at hand.
  • Cross-discipline coordination to ensure that the multi-discipline design intent is met.
  • Supporting the project team in development of design, documentation, plans and reports for relevant project design elements.
  • Working closely with the various engineers in recommending the best use of project tools to achieve project objectives, troubleshoot, and resolve issues with the project tools.

Does this sound like you?

  • Knowledge of basic electrical engineering design, including MCCs, power and lighting panels, single line diagrams, lighting schedules and layouts.
  • An Electrical Engineering Technology diploma from an accredited technical college.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering theory, principals, and practice.
  • Demonstrated 1-3+ years in design and drafting work on electrical projects.
  • Proficient in REVIT and/or AutoCAD.
  • Experience with ETAP, AGI 32, Navisworks is an asset
  • Working knowledge of the CEC, IEEE, IEC, and NFPA.
  • Comfortable in a field/construction site setting.
  • Ability to work with others on large complex projects.
  • Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
  • Strong troubleshooting, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills with excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Possess a valid class 5 driver's license .
  • Available for occasional work occurring out of normal working hours, including overtime.
  • Available to travel within Canada.
