Job Summary

The Junior Information Architect supports the planning, development, and maintenance of CSBSโ€™s Product & Solutions content architecture and publishing ecosystem. This role assists with DITA XML information architecture, content modeling, and technical publishing activities that enable CSBS to deliver consistent, accessible, and scalable digital content to multiple delivery channels.

The Junior Information Architect contributes to content strategy execution by:

  • Supporting XML-based authoring and publishing workflows.
  • Supporting the development of metadata and taxonomy to improve search, content organization, and delivery across platforms, with exposure to emerging structured content and AI-enabled content delivery approaches.
  • Assisting with administration of content management systems and maintenance of XML publishing transformations.

The role is hands-on and execution-focused, with opportunities to build skills in DITA XML, taxonomy and knowledge graph/ontology design, metadata modeling, analytics, and accessibility (WCAG) compliance.

The Junior Information Architect collaborates with software development, IT, Learning and Development, and business stakeholders to help ensure CSBS content is well-structured, reusable, user-centered, and aligned with organizational objectives. This position supports efforts to strengthen operational resilience, reduce single points of failure, and support the long-term scalability and sustainability of CSBSโ€™s Product & Solutions content development and delivery.

Essential Functions

  • Execute defined content architecture, publishing, and metadata tasks under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Assist in administering and maintaining CSBS content management systems and publishing environments.
  • Support technical writing, editing, and publishing of DITA XML content for SES, NMLS, and related platforms.
  • Support and assist with the development, documentation, and maintenance of content models, metadata standards, taxonomy, and knowledge graphs or ontology models.
  • Support the development and maintenance of metadata used across SharePoint and other content delivery platforms.
  • Assist with XML publishing workflows using DITA Open Toolkit plugins and publishing transformations.
  • ย Apply user personas and journeys to content to support faceted search and content usability, including emerging AI-enabled search capabilities.
  • Assist in the creation of content specifications and templates aligned to user needs and delivery platforms.
  • Support analytics, SEO initiatives, and measurement of content performance and effectiveness.
  • Contribute to efforts to ensure content meets accessibility standards, including Section 508 and WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) compliance.
  • Assist with content audits and remediation activities.
  • Support documentation of processes, standards, and governance related to content strategy and information architecture.
  • Collaborate with software development, training, and product teams to support implementation of approved content strategies.
  • Contribute to initiatives that prepare CSBS content for emerging technologies, including AI-enabled search and retrieval.
  • Participate in meetings with stakeholders to gather requirements and clarify content and publishing needs.
  • Apply information architecture and UX best practices with guidance from senior team members.

Minimum Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required.

Education and Experience

  • A bachelorโ€™s degree in information science, library science, communications, technical writing, computer science, or a related field.
  • Graduate-level coursework or a masterโ€™s degree in information science, library science, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • At least 1โ€“3 years of relevant experience in structured content, technical writing, XML information architecture, XML content management systems, or a related field.
  • Equivalent work experience may be substituted for higher education requirements.
  • Hands-on or academic experience working with XML-based content, including DITA authoring and publishing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Core Knowledge and Skills (Required):

  • Foundational knowledge of content management systems used for managing and version control of XML content sources.
  • Technical writing experience Basic understanding of related XML standards such as XPath, XSLT, DTD).
  • Basic knowledge of web technologies, including HTML5 and CSS.
  • Foundational understanding of taxonomy and metadata, and related structured knowledge organization concepts.
  • Basic knowledge of accessibility standards, including Section 508 and WCAG, with the ability to apply guidance with support.

Working Knowledge (Preferred):

  • Experience with XML component content management systems (CCMS).
  • Experience with DITA Open Toolkit (DITA-OT) and XML publishing workflows, with the ability to participate in builds and troubleshooting with guidance. Experience with Oxygen XML Editor preferred.

Exposure / Familiarity:

  • Familiarity with SEO concepts and content performance analytics, with the ability to support measurement and reporting efforts.
  • Familiarity with semantic technologies (e.g., RDF, OWL, JSON-LD) and concepts related to structured content and knowledge organization.
  • Familiarity with AI and large language model (LLM) and machine learning concepts and their potential implications for structured content.
  • Exposure to concepts related to knowledge graphs, semantic technologies, and structured knowledge organization is a plus.
