Sr. SCADA Engineer @ Reno, NV
Job Summary
The Senior SCADA Engineer leads the design, development, implementation, and optimization of SCADA systems in a high-volume manufacturing environment. This role provides technical leadership, ensures scalable and secure system architecture, and partners cross-functionally to deliver high-performance manufacturing solutions that support quality, cost, and delivery goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop SCADA/HMI applications using Ignition SCADA (Vision & Perspective modules)
  • Create reusable templates, UDTs, and best practices to enable scalability across lines and plants
  • Collaborate with Controls, MES, IT, and Process Engineering teams
  • Conduct code reviews and provide mentorship for junior engineers and contractors
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts and root cause analysis related to SCADA systems
  • Support change management activities including testing, validation, and deployment
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation (architecture diagrams, SOPs, HMI standards)
  • Ensure compliance with IT/OT cybersecurity and regulatory requirements
  • Contribute to SCADA, digital manufacturing, and Industry 4.0 roadmaps
  • Lead development, implementation, and maintenance of standardized, user-friendly HMI screens for advanced manufacturing processes
  • Integrate SCADA systems with PLCs, field devices, and industrial communication protocols (OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Profinet, EtherCAT)
  • Design and optimize SCADA data architectures, historians, and transactional data flows using SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and Ignition databases
  • Integrate SCADA with third-party and enterprise systems including vision, quality, lab/QC, event streaming, REST/MQTT, and UNS platforms

Required Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
Experience & Skills
  • 8+ years of SCADA/HMI engineering experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Strong expertise with Ignition SCADA and PLC integration
  • Proficiency in Python scripting
  • Strong database experience (SQL, PostgreSQL)
  • Experience designing high-availability systems
  • Background in high-volume manufacturing
  • Solid understanding of electrical hardware, schematics, and sequence control
  • Strong cross-functional and global collaboration skills
  • First-principles, analytical approach to problem solving
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Working-level fluency in English (read, write, speak)
  • Advanced knowledge of industrial standards and protocols (ISA, Modbus, EtherCAT, Ethernet/IP, Profinet, MQTT, OPC UA)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with industrial vision systems
  • PLC programming and troubleshooting experience
  • Knowledge of ISA-88 / PackML
  • Familiarity with U.S. environmental regulations and UL standards

Physical & Safety Requirements
  • Ability to work on the manufacturing floor; PPE required as needed, which may include Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, respirator, and safety eyewear
  • Physical demands include standing, walking, and lifting up to 35 lbs (team-lift for over 35 lbs)
