FMS Aerospace is seeking qualified candidates for full-time employment as a Junior Design Engineer at our Huntsville, Alabama location. The qualified candidate will be responsible for supporting 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) models and drawing development for various aerospace applications. The ideal candidate will be able to exhibit expertise of Solidworks 3D CAD software, have a clear understanding of ASME Y14 and MIL-STD-31000A specifications, possess strong communications skills, and a strong self-motivated work ethic.

The Junior Design Engineer supports the design, development, testing, and documentation of engineering products, systems, and components. Working under the guidance of senior engineering staff, this role contributes to design projects by creating models and drawings, performing analyses, supporting testing activities, and assisting with the implementation of engineering solutions. The position provides an excellent opportunity for professional growth and technical skill development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and development of products, systems, and components in accordance with project requirements
  • Create and revise engineering drawings, 3D models, and technical documentation using SolidWorks 3D modeling software.
  • Perform basic engineering calculations, analyses, and design evaluations.
  • Support prototype development, testing, and validation activities.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and engineering teams to support product development efforts.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates degree in Computer Aided Design, Engineering Technology, or related field of study.
  • 0-3 years of progressive engineering design experience.
  • Working knowledge and experience in SolidWorks CAD software.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, product development processes, and design-for-manufacturing concepts.
  • Experience performing engineering analyses, testing, and validation activities.
  • Ability to interpret and develop technical drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Must possess an active DoD Secret Clearance (Secret level minimum) or be able to obtain one.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings and GD&T principles.
  • Familiarity with PDM vault configuration management software
  • Interest in aviation airframe modifications is recommended.
  • Additional Desired Software/Certification Experience:
    • Solidworks Professional Certification
    • Additional Proficiency in other CAD platforms (Autodesk, PTC Creo, etc.)
    • Experience with Product Data Management software (Solidworks PDM, PTC Windchill, etc.)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
