Responsibilities
Brasfield & Gorrie, a recognized leader in the construction industry, has an exciting opportunity available for a Design Manager - Mission Critical in Birmingham, Alabama or Atlanta, Georgia.
The Design Manager will encourage a culture focused on effective project delivery by supporting our clients, project teams and company in our efforts to provide facilitation and coaching during design / preconstruction resulting in a smooth transition to construction operations.
Responsibilities and Essential Duties include the following (other duties may be assigned):
  • Leads project teams including owner, design team, and trade partners with an integrated approach to achieving scope, schedule and budget alignment
  • Responsible for establishing an integrated team experience through role clarity, effective communication strategy, and facilitating a culture that fosters collaboration
  • Facilitate and collaborate with internal departments and project teams
  • Facilitate team alignment and onboarding process at the onset of design and promote accountability to sustain through design
  • Facilitate design and decision planning with the construction team, design team, and owner
  • Manage, mentor and guide design team members and preconstruction team members to ensure clear direction and execution
  • Manage, mentor and guide design assist trade partners to ensure effective integration with the project team
  • Guide design teams through the negotiations and decisions to establish essential project scope and program to facilitate business case validation
  • Engages with clients and designers to share Brasfield & Gorrie's integrated delivery approach

Education - Skills - Knowledge - Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, industrial engineering, or other design equivalent field
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
  • 5+ years experience in group facilitation and implementing collaborative delivery (Design Build, Conceptual Design Development, etc.) preferred
  • Specific experience in industrial manufacturing design
  • Specific experience in process layout, process design, cleanroom, food and beverage preferred
  • Strong CAD and Revit capability preferred
  • Ability and willingness to travel. Potentially up to 60%
  • Passionate about leading change and improving industry processes
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to speak confidently in groups of 30+
  • Ability to coach complex and diverse groups
  • Ability and desire to master new skills
