Job description

Lynch Consultants is seeking a Junior Data Analyst to support the Department of the Air Force (DAF) in the National Capital Region on a Financial Improvement and Audit Remediation (FIAR) effort focused on financial data automation, advanced analytics, and AI-enabled mission support. 

This role will support the development and operationalization of an integrated financial automation capability that connects Financial Management (FM) data sources, automates key workflows, and enables repeatable analytics and AI-enabled use cases. The objective of this effort is to reduce redundant manual analysis, improve data accessibility and quality, generate cost savings, and accelerate audit-ready timelines across the Air Force financial management environment. 

The selected candidate will apply technical expertise and analytical skills to implement data analysis and business solutions in support of Air Force FM transformation priorities. This includes working with structured and unstructured data, supporting automation initiatives, developing data visualizations and reporting solutions, and helping operational teams leverage advanced tools and emerging technologies in a secure Government environment.

Salary: $59,000 - $63,000/yr commensurate with experience. 

Work Location and Schedule:

  • This position requires an in-person presence 5-days/week at Dayton, OH / Wright-Patterson Airforce Base.

Required Qualifications – Must Have:
 

  • MUST have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. 

  • MUST have 2+ years of relevant experience in data analytics, database support, reporting, automation, or related technical/business solution delivery. 

  • MUST have an active Secret Clearance with the ability to maintain eligibility. 

  • MUST have hands-on experience with data analysis and programming tools such as Python, PySpark, SQL, R, Scala, Visual Basic, or similar technologies used to parse, cleanse, manipulate, analyze, and visualize large datasets. 

  • MUST have experience creating and maintaining databases and developing data products such as dashboards, visualizations, analytic reports, and data cleansing scripts/processes. 

  • MUST have familiarity with modern data and automation environments, including tools such as Databricks, Palantir, Microsoft Power Platform, or similar platforms. 

  • MUST have exposure to OCR, AI/ML concepts, Generative AI, Agentic AI, or use of large language models (LLMs) in an operational or business environment. 

  • MUST have strong communication skills, including the ability to brief stakeholders, support client-facing work, and operate with limited oversight on assigned tasks or workstreams. 

Preferred Qualifications:
 

  • Experience supporting Department of Defense, Department of the Air Force, or Federal financial management clients. 

  • Familiarity with the Operational Air Force Financial Data Structure. 

  • Familiarity with the Operational Air Force Data Dictionary. 

  • Experience supporting FIAR, audit readiness, internal controls, or financial statement audit response efforts. 

  • Experience with MS Power Application Automation. 

  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar visualization platforms. 

  • Familiarity with cloud-enabled analytics, workflow automation, and enterprise data environments supporting financial operations. 

  • Experience working across both functional and technical teams to operationalize analytic and automation capabilities. 

Skills & Duties:

  • Supporting the integration, transformation, validation, and analysis of Air Force financial and operational data from multiple sources. 

  • Developing and maintaining data analytics solutions, reports, dashboards, and visualizations to support FIAR and FM modernization objectives

  • Creating data cleansing processes, scripts, and repeatable workflows to improve data quality and reduce manual effort. 

  • Supporting the development of automation use cases that connect FM data sources and streamline business processes. 

  • Assisting with AI- and analytics-enabled solutions that improve audit readiness, traceability, and decision support. 

  • Applying OCR capabilities and related technologies to extract and structure data from documents and other non-standard inputs. 

  • Supporting the use of large language models and emerging AI/ML tools in operational business environments, consistent with client direction and security constraints. 

  • Preparing and presenting analytic findings, recommendations, and solution concepts to Government and contractor stakeholders, and coordinating across technical and functional teams to support implementation of scalable, repeatable business solutions.
