POSITION SUMMARY:

The [Junior Full Stack Developer - coop] role is to help plan, design, develop, test, launch, and maintain software applications in support of the achievement of business requirements. This includes researching, designing, documenting, and modifying software programs and applications throughout the system life cycle. This position requires an ability to create and interpret various instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled form. Must have analytical and problem-solving skills and an intense desire to learn, understanding of coding methods and best practices. Able to communicate effectively with non-technical staff and with members of interdisciplinary teams.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Pursuit of Bachelor's degree or Community College diploma in Computer Studies, Computer Science, Science, Engineering or Mathematics or equivalent
  • Applicants must be enrolled in a recognized postsecondary co-op program
  • Moderate level of application experience
  • Knowledgeable in several modern programming languages and schema design concepts
  • Knowledgeable in the use of at least one modern Database Management System
  • Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain safety standards of equipment and work area and perform all duties in a safe manner in accordance with the safety policies of Karmax.
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner in accordance with Section 28 of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations for Industrial Establishments.

  • Prevent Pollution, Preserve Natural Resources & Protect our Environment Follows Magna internal and external compliance policies.
  • Assists in the feasibility studies for the establishment of new or revised systems and procedures.
  • Carries out systems analysis and design at a junior level. Formulates logical statements of operational, administrative, or financial problems using structured systems design techniques.
  • Ensures that the resulting design meets the operational needs and requirements of the users.
  • Works directly with users to determine systems requirements and meets with senior management in the company.
  • Employs iterative development techniques in the implementation of systems.
  • Design and develop front-end & back-end components/services for new and existing applications.
  • Integration of internal systems to external applications/services.
  • Assists other staff with all systems and procedures to ensure conformance to standards.
  • Designs, codes, tests, debugs, and documents new and existing applications in accordance with departmental programming and development standards.
  • Understands version control and source code management.
  • Keeps current with software and hardware technology, understands emerging trends, and keeps team members informed.
  • Assists the project leader and assists other staff involved in the detailed design and coding of system projects.
  • Attends code reviews with Senior and Junior Developers.
  • Attends regular status meetings with project team members to determine business priorities.
  • Flexible to work occasional overtime. Performs other duties as required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Must be able to work in various locations within and outside the Manufacturing Plant
  • Must be able to work outside of normal office hours to meet needs of the position with minimum supervision
