This position offers flexibility regarding on-site location within the Northern Market locations (Bluefield, Princeton, & Tazewell). 


PRIMARY PURPOSE

This position is responsible for developing new business and growth and profitability of a commercial portfolio consisting of large complex commercial relationships. This position maintains strong sales and service culture with emphasis on sound underwriting decisions. The employee also services and maintains existing portfolio and actively promotes the bank's product and services through community activity and marketing efforts. Performance of the duties requires a strong work ethic, excellent organization and analytical skills as well as attention to detail. Also, clear communication and good customer service/public relation skills are necessary.


The following essential duties do not cover an all-inclusive list of work requirements. Individuals will perform other job-related duties as assigned, including work in other areas to cover absences or otherwise balance the workload.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Develops and retains commercial business, meeting with current or prospective customers of extreme complexity.

2. Accepts commercial loan applications and processes information, analyzing and collecting all relative financial information.

3. Determines credit worthiness of customer in adherence to bank policies and procedures and ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations.

4. Collaborates with customers and/or potential customers, educating on various services and products available and applicable to customer financial needs.

5. Approves or declines loan requests within established credit authority.

6. Maintains a Commercial Loan Portfolio consisting of larger, more complex accounts and monitors relationships to determine deterioration of credit and/or risk on an on-going basis.

7. Maintains existing loan portfolio to include managing and minimizing loan exceptions, outstanding documentation, and updating financial information on a routine basis.

8. Responsible for requesting analysis on new and renewed requests in accordance with loan policy for appropriate approval by management or loan committee.

9. Serves as primary contact relative to commercial service needs within officer identified portfolios and promotes bank products and services through external sales efforts enhancing customer relationships and rapport.

10. Analyzes potential markets and develops referral networks within the community in order to locate prospects for bank relationships.

11. Maintains knowledge and understanding of new commercial lending products and services to include deposit and loans, loan policies, documentation, structuring and regulatory requirements to better serve the bank's customers.

12. May work closely with other commercial banking staff, credit administration and/or the Chief Banking Officer.

13. Works closely with the Jr. Commercial Lending staff, as needed.

14. Attend and present loan requests to the BLC, Senior Credit Committee, as needed.

15. Actively participates in local civic organizations and professional functions to enhance business opportunities and promote the bank's image within the community.

16. Regularly refresh knowledge of and familiarity with online, mobile, electronic and traditional products and services. Regularly practice/rehearse customer conversation and engagement skills around the entire suite of New Peoples Bank products and services. Invite customer respect by demonstrating product and service knowledge and engaging customers around the benefits of using them.

17. Performs related duties and responsibilities as required and assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

Graduation from an accredited four-year college with Bachelor degree in Finance or related field or a minimum of 10 years of banking experience primarily in commercial lending; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities. Must successfully complete required training.


KEY COMPETENCIES

-Knowledge of lending policies and procedures, lending laws, regulations and compliance requirement.

-Detailed knowledge of credit analysis processes and complex loan structure.

-Ability to effectively manage a commercial loan portfolio to include credit quality and risk identification and to deal with more complex commercial relationships.

-Ability to apply analytical reasoning, problem solving skills, and corrective action resolutions to lending situations.

-Ability to meet and deal tactfully and courteously with the staff and general public as well as establish and maintain effective working relationships across all levels of the organization.

-Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

-Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

-Knowledge of computer software and operations to include underwriting/lending software products and Microsoft Office.
